It's been almost 2 weeks since graduation. I applied to 3 colleges: 2 community colleges and the U. I wanted to go to the U for mainly one reason: Nate. I haven't seen him in the longest time and I miss him dearly.
As I struggled out of bed I heard Jamie and Cora whispering excitedly downstair. I could only make out a couple words like: "accepted" and "tell her". As a strutted down the stairs still in my pj's, Cora and Jamie glanced at me. "
We've got great news honey!" she squealed.
"Nate's here?" I asked suddenly wide awake.
"No, silly!" She teased."You got into the U!"
She threw her arms around me, and spun me in a circle. "Go get ready!"
I walked up slowly to my bedroom. I still couldn't believe I got into the U! I would be there with Nate...
When I got out of my shower, I glanced at myself in the mirror. My hair was getting to be a deeper red than before, and my eyes a brighter blue. I had my clothes for the day laid out next to the bathroom.
I decided to wear my blue high waisted shorts, and my favorite black and white 80's crop top. When I got of the bathroom I found Cora in my room packing my bags. I felt so relieved that I changed my clothes in the bathroom.
"What's going on?" I asked her, very confused.
A look of bewilderment crossed her face,
"Didn't I tell- Oh my gosh! I forgot to tell you, you are taking a trip to the U so you can see the college, and maybe even see Nate." She explained in a melodious voice.
"Cora-I-I-am really pleased, but don't worry. I don't want you stressing yourself out. I am worried about you and the babies." I nodded towards her huge stomach.
"Oh the twins are gonna be fine, I have been taking my medication." She assured me. Cora was expecting two twin boys in 3 months.
"So when are am I leaving" I asked her.
She glanced at the clock hanging from my wall. "In about 20 minutes and we decided that you can drive by yourself there." She smiled at me, her cheeks were flushed.
About four hours later, I was in my Toyota Prius singing along to the radio, I'm never in a good mood like this. As I pulled into the campus parking lot. My heart began beating so fast I couldn't contain it. I parked and jumped out of the car, running and asking people if they knew Nate. I ran up to a really tall, lanky guy carrying a backpack.
"Hey, do you know Nate Cross?"
The guy nodded and said, "He is in dorm 468."
I felt so happy I could almost hug the guy . I ran to 468 and took a deep breath. Nate is in there I told myself. I gathered the courage and knocked on the door. Nate came to the door, his face was all red and he was breathing hard. He was only wearing his boxers,
"Ruby, what- are you doing here?" He said completely surprised.
"I came to surprise you, can I come in?" I asked inching closer to the door to see inside.
"Uh no, I'm kinda busy , and-" then a girls voice called out and cut him off,
"Babe, are you coming back to bed?" He glanced at me to try to read my expression. Suddenly a girl came to the door pushing her way through Nate. She was wrapped in a bed sheet, and her hair was messed up. I noticed that she was red, and panting.
"Who-Who are you?" She asked trying to catch her breath. I opened my mouth but no words came out.
Then I suddenly found my voice "Nate are you cheating on me?!" I screamed, then I turned away before he could answer.
I ran to my car and locked all the doors. I cried for hours. How could Nate do this to me? I kept asking myself.
