Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Blue Trident
A/N: this is going to be a shorter chapter, sorry! Please review!!!!!!!! (:
Chapter One
I had been dreading this moment for the past three days. Things were finally right between me and Annabeth, this would probably make things difficult again.
She was sitting on her bunk typing frantically on Daedalus' computer as if she could solve whatever problem it was by pounding on the key board. I was about to back out the door, afraid of unleashing her wrath. Annabeth got sucked into her work easily and didn't like distractions. But I was also afraid of telling her, because she wouldn't take the news lightly.
"Hey," she jumped when I spoke her hand automatically flying to her dagger "Whoa, take it easy, it's just me."
"Gods Percy, you scared me!"
"Sorry," I walked over to the books along the back wall as she jumped off her bunk.
"What's going on?" she asked coming up behind me.
"Nothing," I whispered, turning towards her. She stared at me her eyes pleading to know, she could obviously tell there was something I needed to say to her.
"I know it's something," she placed her hand on my arm; my stomach did summersaults "just tell me."
I stared at the books along the wall. There were books of all shapes and sizes, some new some old. They weren't very organized, some standing vertically others stacked up on their sides. I ran my fingers across the bindings.
"Percy-"
"I'm leaving," I blurted out suddenly. It was as if my mouth was speaking before my mind could even consider catching up to it "I'm going on a quest. Chiron wants me to leave as soon as possible. It's my dad; I think he needs my help. I was having all these dreams and now they finally make sense. He was trying to tell me something. I don't know what it is, but Artemis was a part of it. I don't know what to do or where to start, but I have to go and figure this out."
"I'm coming with you," she immediately grabbed her backpack and started throwing clothes into it. Followed by her computer, a few books, flashlight…
"You're not coming with me."
Annabeth paused, her back still facing me. Her hands were still in the midst of dropping her flashlight into her bag.
"You don't want me to come?" she sounded upset.
"I don't want anything to happen to you."
She didn't answer, pondering this. Finally she spoke "Percy, just because we're together now, doesn't mean you need to protect me. I'm strong; I have been on quests with you before, what difference is there now?"
"You're my weakness," I stared at the floor "if Kronos came back and figured this out, or if any other monster or enemy knew that, I we would both be more susceptible to danger."
"I don't care how dangerous it is. No matter what I'm with you a hundred percent. You're not going to leave me behind, please don't, just please,,," she trailed off begging.
"If something happened to you, I couldn't live with myself… When you were hurt during battle and Kronos was attacking New York so I couldn't do anything to help you, it was the worst time in my life. I couldn't think straight thinking I could have lost you."
"But you didn't lose me."
"I could have, though."
"I'm coming," she said staring straight into my eyes "and you can't stop me."
I didn't protest, no matter how scared I was that I could lose her at any time, there was a part of me that was hoping all along that she would come.
We were standing in downtown New York, the world hustling around us.
"So," Annabeth spoke finally "what's your plan?"
"I think we need to contact Zeus," and with that a blot of lightning struck the ground.
"Annabeth!"
