"Yumi, don't...Don't leave." Ulrich feels his heart breaking, slowly falling apart piece by piece, the shards lodging themselves into his lungs. He can barely breathe. He can barely say the words he is trying so desperately to form.
The geisha is just observing him through unimpressed eyes, backpack hanging off her shoulder, boarding pass gripped tightly in one hand and the handle of her luggage in the other. She's heading back home to Japan...Where she claims her real life is. Where Ulrich and Lyoko aren't. Where her friends and family who hadn't betrayed her trust lived. The samurai forces his rage aside and wills the tears welling up in his eyes away. Through the rain, he meets her gaze.
"Please, I...I-I'm sorry I messed up. It was stupid and-"
"Yeah." Yumi's voice was barely audible through the aggressive pounding of the rain. It was just above a whisper and so unbearably detached. Ulrich had heard her voice like that once long ago, when her parents fought and decided to split up for a few days. Just like before, he can't stop himself from reaching out, wanting more than anything just to help, wanting to be there for her. Yumi takes a step back, her voice even softer than before.
"Don't."
"Yumi, please. Don't leave us...Please don't leave me."
Yumi shakes her head, a voice calling for her flight through the speakers and she begins to turn, pausing momentarily and reaching into her pocket to fish out the lottery ticket he had purchased for her parents. The second time Ulrich tries to force back the tears, it doesn't work. They start to slip down his cheeks and mix in with the rain as she hands back the piece of paper that ended their friendship.
"I...I love you, Yumi. Please, stay with me. I'm so sorry. I need you."
"I loved you too, Ulrich. I really did, more than I could ever understand. But you had to go ahead and betray everything I knew and loved about you. And I...I can't. Not anymore."
Yumi turns away finally, following the crowd of people flooding into the airport and behind her she can hear Ulrich's broken voice calling out to her. Pleading for her to come back. As the rain slowly drowned out his voice, she could feel her own tears drip down as she balled her fists tightly. It is killing her to leave Ulrich, to leave her very soul mate behind, but she can't bare the thought that he was ready to betray everything she loved about him for her sake.
