Summary: Bela sees Sam after Dean's time is up. Slight Bela/Dean Oneshot.
Bela studied the tall figure that entered the bar before her. Slowly, she followed him inside. Scanning the room quickly, her eyes soon landed on the person she was looking for. Sam Winchester sat slumped at the bar, swallowing shot after shot. Silently, she went up and sat down on the stool beside his.
"Hey Bela," she stiffened for a moment at his easy smile before remembering that this guy was a hunter and knew when people were following him. Smiling smartly she said,
"Sam, fancy meeting you here. Where's the big brother?"
Sam rolled his eyes but immediately stiffened at the word 'brother' and his face fell into an emotionless mask.
"Where the hell have you been Bela?"
"I went over seas for a while and made some business deals over there. Why?" Pause.
"Let me guess, Dean ditched you here to spend time with a-" Sam cut her off.
"Dean's dead." Bela sat in a stunned silence, smile falling off her face. It took a moment before she gained her composure again. Smiling bitterly she said,
"Let me guess, he made an idiot move on one of your hunts." Sam slammed down the shot glass that he just drained, throwing down some money and walked towards the door. Rolling her eyes, Bela got up and followed him out.
"What's the matter Sammy? Did I hit a sore spot?" Sam spun to face her and if looks could kill, she'd be dead.
"You don't know anything Bela! Stop acting like you do." Sam then seemed to wilt before her eyes. All of the anger seemed to just melt away from his body. Leaning against the car net to him he said,
"He traded his life for mine." Bela gasped. She felt as if all of the air in her lungs had been violently shoved out. The phrase just kept repeating itself over and over in her head. Finally, she managed to gasp out,
"What happened?" Sam slumped even more, looking like he wanted to disappear.
"Just under two years ago, I got stabbed in the back. It was bad, my spinal cord was severed. I died in his arms. He couldn't deal, so he went to the nearest crossroads. The crossroads demon usually gives a person 10 years but since Dean was who he was, she only gave him a year."
"Why didn't he try to get out of it?" She interrupted.
"It was part of the deal. If he tried to weasel his way out, I would drop dead and the deal would be off." He paused for a moment before continuing.
"She came for him about 9 months ago." Bela once again fell into a stunned silence. Regret began to fill her mind for all she had said to the Winchesters.
"I'm so sorry Sam. For everything." Sam looked at her and smiled softly, forgiveness shining in his eyes.
"It's fine Bela." Turning away, he made his way over to the impala. As the roar of the engine filled the parking lot, all she could think was,
"He's dead, he's gone, he's in hell…suffering…"
Smiling sadly at the disappearing lights, she felt her heart break slightly at the missed opportunities.
"Goodbye Dean Winchester."
