for the pairing diversity boot camp challenge on the hpfc.

prompt: glad rags.

#1: dominique/lysander.

one;

blue is the colour of her leotard, that shimmers under the harsh beams of the spotlight and makes her eyes sparkle like sapphires.

it's no prom dress, but, he thinks as she glides across the stage, satiny fabric catching the light and glittering like the stars ( like her eyes ) she's never looked so beautiful - so right.

two;

gold is the colour of the stars that glitter from her bedroom walls, to serve as a reminder of who she wants to - no, has to become.

once, he went into her room ( which she would have killed him for, if she knew ) and looked at the clothes-strewn floor, the unmade bed, the dust collecting on her dresser - and he wonders where this dominique - his dominique - has gone.

( she's gone, silly boy; traded imperfection for glitz and glamour, and disappeared off into the stars she loves)

three;

violet is the colour of the curtains, sweeping across the stage slowly to reveal the girl that used to be his best friend. ( and more, almost )

he's still got the image of the old dominique in his head, though, so he's almost afraid to see what lies behind those inpenetrable velvet curtains.

four;

silver is the colour of the spotlights, trained on her small, slender figure in the middle of the stage. the ever-familiar blue leotard shines, and his heart skips a beat; but then he catches a glance at her face, and his heart drops at her blank expression, her eyes that are like hard, cold gemstones in her face.

( she isn't his dominique anymore )

and he's vaguely aware of her complicated movements and the admiring gaze of the crowds, but all he can think of is that she's changed far too much.

five;

grey is the colour that he feels when the concert finally comes to an end.

grey is the colour that he is - a lone figure in a t-shirt and jeans amongst all those people in their shimmering, sparkling glad rags and impeccable manners.

grey is the colour of his heart when he realises, finally, that he will never be a part of her new world.
