Paperwork wasn't Ste's strong suit. He was struggling. His shoulders were hunched, his brow wrinkled and he had a biro sticking out of the corner of his mouth.

His tongue was blue.

So far he had refused all offers of help. That didn't stop Brendan trying to lend a hand though.

"Give it here."

"Gerroff Brendan. Leave me be."

"Hand it over, it'll only take two ticks and then we can get back to ….."

"No Bren. It's up to me to do this. I'm her dad. It's me job."

"Two heads are better than one." Brendan wiggled his eyebrows, hoping all his meanings were heard.

Ste chose to ignore him.

"Things have changed since my day. This Maths homework 'as got me contotallyfused."

"Contotes..? Excuse me?" Brendan stared at Ste with question marks in his ears.

Yes he did just say that.

Ste looked embarrassed. "Shurrup you know what I mean."

Every time Brendan thought he had read the entire menu that was Stephen Hay, another dish was added.

The Irishman leant over and pulled his partner close, his shoulders shaking with laughter. He planted a proud smacker on the younger guy's forehead. Stephen may be a nugget short of a Happy Meal, but he loved his kids that was not in any doubt; and Brendan wouldn't have it any other way.
