Letting out an annoyed sigh as she flopped down at her desk in home room, Kagome let her eyes roll. Her mind still reeling over what happened when she got home from work last night. OF all the people in the Western Lands, she has to get summoned to the home of the Demon Lord Sesshomaru. Dropping her head to her desk she groaned. 'OH man why me? What does he want with me?'
She had no idea why he would even want to see someone like her anyway. And she was terrified to go, but being who he was she had no choice in the matter. Everyone her age, or even the demons in her grade knew the stories from long ago. How he would kill a human just for looking at him. He didn't do that now anymore but it still scared her to death. After all it was no secret that he still hated humans.
Rolling her head to look out the window she sighed. There was that little girl that was always with him as he traveled around the country though. She seemed to the only exception to the rule of hating humans. She just wished that she knew why she was being summoned to see him, and that creepy little toad wouldn't tell her a single thing.
The sudden sense of anger made Kagome snap her head up and look right into glaring eyes standing before her. Mitsukai. The resident evil dog demon that acted like the world owed her for her very exitance. She could also feel the stares of those that waited to see what she was going to do. "What do you want now Mitsukai? I am really not in the mood." Then rolled her eyes at the rest of the class when they gasped. It was like everyone else in this school were scared to say a thing to her other than herself and Sango. Which she didn't understand why they let her push them around.
With a glare for the miko in front of her, Mitsukai crossed her arms. She denied a miko, but anyone with a half way sensitive nose to such things could clearly smell it coming from her, and that annoyed her about this human. But right now what she wanted from her was to know why the toad was at her house. "Tell me Kagome. Tell me why that imp was at your house last night? I do live close enough to that thing you call a shrine I could smell him there so don't you dare try to deny he was. I demand to know why Jaken was there and what he wanted."
With an annoyed glare at first, Kagome then smiled an evil smile at her as she looked up. She was terrified to go and see what he wanted and had no clue what was going to happen when she got there. But she could at least use it to get under Mitsukai's skin with it. Seeing a she was the only demon, half demon, or human around that area that she knew was totally obsessed with becoming his mate. With a shrug of her shoulders, Kagome closed her eyes. "I am not sure yet. All I know is that he told me that Lord Sesshomaru wants to see me at his home today. A car will be waiting for me after school to take me to his home."
Her temper flaring, Mitsukai growled as she glared down at Kagome. Her eyes twitching. "That little imp didn't tell you what he wanted did he?"
Laughing as she crossed her arms and smiled up at Mitsukai, Kagome sighed as she opened her eyes. "Not a thing. Just I have to go there today."
Growling again, Mitsukai leaned down closer to her. She could just see it in her devious blue eyes. She was up to something with that vile smile she had. "I am going to look into this that is for sure. I don't know what you think you are planning but I am the only one in the world that is destined and worthy enough to be his mate."
Leaning back in her chair, Kagome laughed as hard as she could. That was by far the farthest thing in her mind and she was almost certain that it was the farthest in his mind too. "Oh trust me Mitsukai, you can have him. I have never and will never want him. I really don't know why I am being called there today. All the little toad said was that he I was to show up. But I seriously doubt that it is because he wants to mate me. I mean with the exception of the little girl he doesn't have the best track record with being nice to humans. He isn't going to mate one."
Laughing, Mitsukai walked away as she smiled. "That is certainly true. There is no way he would stoop so low as to mate with a human. But if he did cloud his senses and mate with one, there is no way he would mate one as ordinary as you look. She would most certainly have to be a raving beauty. But that isn't likely to happen. I am destined to mate him and give him a son."
Glaring at Mitsukai as she left the room, Kagome wanted to growl herself. She hated that demon. Especially she knew when compared to some demons, humans and half demons she sees around that she is ordinary at best. Mitsukai was no exception to that rule. Extra long perfect hair, flawless skin and a beautiful smile with stunning eyes. And Kagome herself was just that ordinary.
Turning to look out the window, Kagome sighed. 'It would serve them right if he mates with a homeless girl with missing teeth and ten times bigger than he is.'

With a glare across the small court yard to Kagome at her class room. Mitsukai was seeing blood right now. It was the word around the demon community that Sesshomaru has been acting rather strange as of late. And that it all seemed to be centered on the kid that he always has with him. She was the only human in a palace and world of demons, seeing as she was always at his side. 'Perhaps he just wants to have her spend some time with a human still? But why a miko? Why someone like Kagome? Or maybe it is because she is a miko and he wants to deal with her? Either way it goes I will find out what is going on.'

Sitting down at his desk after another long day at his office, Sesshomaru sighed as he closed his eyes. Reaching up with a single hand he undid the top three buttons of his shirt and then let his arm fall down to the arm of the chair. The world he was born into was gone. And now this world he was forced to live in was developing out of control with everyone trying to have the best and newest of everything. To him it was like he went overnight and then had to trade in his haori, hakama, armor and sords for a suit and no weapon on him save his claws. But it was the dealings with the humans and other demons and half demons that only became more and more complicated each day.
However the last year, he has had one solitary out in this crazy world. The moments that he shared with Rin. Though thinking about her caused a pain laced haze to fill his amber eyes. She was all he craved to keep calm in this world. Human or not she was his daughter. And in a chaotic world, she was his saving grace. Yet daily over the year since she ran into him, he has a growing worry. He knew that one day he was going to lose her to death. And he didn't know how he was going to handle that after he let her weave herself into his heart.
And yet there was a change in him recently. It wasn't anything as drastic as a change in life, she was after all only six years old. But there was something off about her right now. He figured that it was because she was surrounded mostly by male demons and was losing her grip on how to deal with humans. So he figured a fulltime, live in companion for her would be good. And he knew exactly who he was going to choose to do it.
That would be Kagome Higurashi. She apparently according to rumors he has heard, doesn't even know that she is a miko even though every demon and half demon she meets tell her that she is. He however knew she was and a few other things that she would be told as time went on. Right now he would have her look after Rin, and trained to use her powers so that she could protect her, and give him the one thing he longed for most.
The small knock on the door, and the smell of purification drew him from his thoughts as he looked up. He had been so into his thoughts thinking about why she was there, that he had forgotten that she was going to be there soon. With a sigh, as he closed his eyes, Sesshomaru buttoned his buttons back. "Come in."
Taking a deep breath, Kagome opened the door and walked in slowly. She was shaking somewhat from the fear of the unknown. Looking up and seeing him sitting at his desk, she was taken back as her heart skipped a beat. She had only ever seen him on TV and from far away. She knew he was handsome. But now that she was so close to him, and getting closer, she had no doubt that he was clearly the most handsome man that she had ever laid eyes on. Of any race or mixed race!
With a sigh as she got closer she dropped her head. It didn't matter how handsome he was. Like Mitsukai said after all, he was dreamy, but she was so ordinary that it was sickening. Even if she wanted a chance, she never stood one with him. And it wasn't like he was going to be jumping at the bit to give her one either.
Smelling how nervous she was, and the fear in her eyes, Sesshomaru motioned toward the chair that was right before his desk. "Sit down. And calm down you are not here because you have done anything wrong. You are here because of a job proposal that I have for you." Turning his head he turned just his eyes and watched as she sat down. 'Well that is contrary to what I have been told. I was told that she was a beauty. And I have also seen all mikos are supposed to be stunning. Yet she is quite ordinary in looks. But I can't remember when I smelled such strong purification on a miko before.'
As she sat down and saw the way he looked at her, Kagome was worried almost sick about what he wanted. Not to mention how all the demons in her district were going to react about her being there. But she did sort of half expect it to be partly about the fact that she is told daily that she is a miko and she isn't. 'Oh man I hope he doesn't believe it and is either going to send me a way or kill me! I am not even a miko!'
But then when she heard what he said, and it sank in Kagome was a little shocked. He wanted to offer her a job? Really that was it? With a sigh as she kept her eyes on his, Kagome smiled. "What sort of job is it My Lord? Because you see I already have a part time job at a supermarket near my home."
Turning to face her fully, Sesshomaru let out a sigh. He did word that wrong when he said that it was a proposal. "I worded that wrong."
Now truly confused, Kagome let her head fall to the side as she blinked at him. "What do you mean My Lord?"
His eyes not wavering, Sesshomaru bore into her eyes. "Because the job is not so much an offer as it is fact. You cannot get out of it, and this is going to be a set job for the next twelve years."
Gasping as her eyes went wide, Kagome was frozen. He couldn't be serious about this! With all the different things that someone like he could call a 'job' flashing through her mind, her stomach started doing more and more flips. Her face totally paling. "What sort of a job is it then?"
Reaching in the top draw of his desk, Sesshomaru pulled out a photo of himself and Rin. Looking at it for a second, he then reached over his desk and handed it to Kagome. "Her name is Rin and she is my adopted daughter. She is six years old. She has been acting strange as of late, so I want her to have a human around and see if that helps her. You will stay until she turns eighteen. With the bond that she develops with you, a human woman who has already gone through life changes can help her with that. Once she reaches eighteen you will no longer be needed to be employed."
Relaxing now, Kagome smiled as she looked down at the picture. So he just wanted a babysitter for his adopted daughter. She could totally handle that one. "She is absolutely adorable." 'I wonder what her secret is if she was able to get into his heart enough to be a daughter. With the reputation of being a cold bastard that he has.' Handing the picture back to him, she smiled. "What are the conditions?"
Putting the picture away, Sesshomaru turned and looked her right in the eyes. He could see her feisty side, she was stubborn and wouldn't back down too easy. That part he dreaded. But the bigger picture was all he cared about right now. So he only hoped that common sense with her would override the urge to buck up against him. "To be blunt and to the point Miss Higurashi. You are moving into this palace, and spending next to every waking moment with Rin that she isn't with me. Much like becoming s surrogate mother to her."
