Being Saved
Chapter 1:
Fresh air, the wind flying past my face, the speed of Dakota. His strength, happiness, relaxation. We speed past the pond, through the trees, and to the mountains. The beautiful mountains. We get to the meadow, I get off, and let Dakota rest. It takes about 30 minutes to get here, and poor Dakota, since he hasn't been here in a week, didn't want to stop until we approached our spot.
An hour passed of Dakota and I watching the sun rise the rest of the way, went by very quickly, as it always does. We start on home, walking this time, like usual. Dakota never wants to leave, neither do I. When we approach the pond, i get off, and let Dakota drink, than continue down the valley.
I can see the silo now, than the top of the barn, than the house. All I could think of now, is how my father and I left things, before I ran off with Dakota… We had a bad argument over selling my brother's horse, Rambo.
My brother died on November 31st, 2010. The day before my birthday. I never really thought much of my birthday, until the crash. Now it just reminds me that its been another year without my brother being around. Josh wasn't the best brother, he was distant, he only spoke about his issues to Rambo, and never ate super at the table with us. But he was always there when I needed him.
Josh was the one who got me back on Dakota after I was bucked off, and stomped on. When we found Dakota, he was tied to a tree in the middle of the woods, left to starve. His ribs were showing, his legs were too small to hold his own weight up for much longer. You could just about see every bone in his body. I still thought he was the most beautiful I've ever seen.
