Understanding and Acceptance
"Why did it happen?" Questioned Delirium.
"What do you mean sis?" Death answered her, while knowing at the same time just what it was that her youngest sibling was speaking of.
"Why did Dream, ah, um I mean Morpheus 'cause there's a new Dream now. Why'd he die?" Del asked her sister again, keeping herself as sane as she was able to without causing herself pain.
"It was just his time." Death answered simply. "There's nothing more to it, he ran out of time."
"But...no. That's not fair! It's, it's just not fair."
Death looked at her sister and sighed. "look Del, hun, I know it's not fair. There are lots of times when things seem unfair. You have no idea just how difficult it was for me to take our brother to the sunless lands. But like I said, it was his time. He accepted that and I had to as well. It's my job."
Del looked at Death and for a moment, both of her eyes turned a deep grass green. Eventually she broke the silence that had formed around them. "I miss him."
Death moved closer to her sister and wrapped an arm around her shoulders before answering. "I know you do Del. So do I." She paused for a moment before continuing. "Sure Daniel's here, but he's not Morpheus. He isn't the brother we have had since the beginning of time."
Delirium put her head down and stared at the floor. "He used to scare me sometimes. And make me...sad...but now. I dunno. I want him back, even if he is scary."
"It's just a shame that all of our wishing and wanting can't bring him back."
"Desire's happy now." Del whispered spitefully.
"Hey now," Death protested, holding onto Delirium with a tighter grip. "I think that, deep down, somewhere inside, Desire misses our brother too. Even if it's only because now, now Desire has nobody to play its games with."
"Yeah, maybe," Delirium replied eventually.
"I'm really sorry sweetie," Death said hastily. "I have to split. Lots of people out there are dying. And someone's gotta take 'em all to the sunless lands."
"Alright," replied Del, finally looking at her sister. "Seeya soon." And with that Del wandered off back into her realm. Back into the chaos of her insanity, having only Barnabas as real company. But before she slipped entirely into the comfortable oblivion of her mania Delirium looked out, staring at nothing in particular and whispered to the night.
"Goodbye Dream. I miss you." And with that said, Delirium, once known as Delight, became her usual self again. Happy in the entirety of her insanity.
