Pups
Hige: Guess what? Here's a one-shot fic by Wolf's Rain's biggest fan!
Me: Yep. Are you ready?
Blue: Of course.
Hige: But, do we have to act?
Me: Yes.
Hige: -moans- Awe, come on...
Me: -cough- Lights, camera, action!
"Hige," my mate, Blue, said, "I want to have pups." I looked up from my book. "But, how?" I asked. "Don't start that," Blue snapped. "You already know how." I sighed and set my book down.
"Yes, I know."
"Well, do you want to have pups?"
I thought about that question. I hadn't seen pups in years. (Except for Toboe, that is.) They were trouble, these pups. At least from what I'd heard.
"Come on, Blue," I whined. "You really want to do this?"
"Yes." She sounded so confident, I thought.
Then, weeks later, we had pups. Blue sat in bed, holding two pups in her arms. I tear trickled down my cheek, and I realized I was crying. "Oh, Blue," I croaked. "They're beautiful." She smiled. "Yes," she whispered. "They are." I looked at her.
"What are we going to name them?" I asked.
"I was thinking we should name them after our friends," she sighed. "You mean Kiba, Tsume, Toboe, and Cheza?" I stared at her. "Indeed so." Blue nodded, rocking the pups.
"Sounds great," I agreed.
"The yellow pup- who looks just like you- I'm naming Kiba," she whispered. "And, the other, a girl, I'll name her Blue. She's black, like me." I sniffed. "That's wonderful, Blue," I said softly.
The pups were beautiful and sweet. However, Kiba- the pup- was a little on the grouchy side. He didn't like anyone touching him. He wanted Blue, and Blue only. "Mommy," he would whine, "I don't want Daddy. He's mean to me."
"Oh, sweetie, Daddy's not mean," Blue would tell him. I would sigh and shake my head. Sure, I was a little hard on him. He would never listen. That's why. I was fed up. But, Blue Jr., on the other hand, was a little goodie-goodie girl. She would do anything to please me and Blue. I liked her. No, I loved her.
She was my best friend. I would go to the ends of the earth for her. But, Kiba Jr...I just didn't know. He hated me, I swear. He really did. Eventually, we grew used to each other. One year later, Kiba Jr. said, "Dad." I looked up from my coffee. "Yeah?"
"I love you." His voice was barely a whisper. My heart melted. "I love you, too," I told him, and wrapped him in a warm, embracing hug. He leaned into me. Blue walked in. She gasped when she saw us hugging.
"Kiba Jr. What are you doing?" she asked. "What?" He looked at her. "What did I do?" She sighed and shrugged. "Nothing," she muttered, and turned to the stove.
That night, Blue and I sat out on the porch, drinking coffee and talking quietly to each other. "Blue, I think Kiba Jr's warmed up to me," I told her. She smiled. "Me too," she said.
"He's starting to look up to you, Hige. And that's how a father-son relationship should be." I nodded. "Yeah," I agreed, staring at the floor like it was the most fascinating thing I'd ever seen.
After talking, Blue and I climbed into bed. "I love you, Blue," I whispered. "I love you too, honey." We hugged. I smiled. I knew this love would last for a life time. That I had no doubt in.
Me: Aww, wasn't that sweet?
Hige: -blushes- I- I guess it was...
Blue: -kisses Hige on the nose-
Hige: -smiles and shoves hands in his pockets-
Blue: Anyway, time to review. Thank you, everyone!
THE END.
