Summer in the Garden of Eden
-x-x-x-x-
The two young girls run happily into the woods, skipping and jumping and gathering wildflowers as they make their way to a small circle of green grass surrounded by old trees that shade their spot from the hot summer sun, golden glimmers of sunlight streaming through the leaves. From here, they can hear the sounds of wind whistling through the trees, the steady stream of water as it babbles down the riverbed, and birdsong, all coming together to form nature's great symphony. This clearing is their favourite spot in the entire forest; their own little Garden of Eden.
The girls drop their things and begin to prepare for the afternoon; there's the castle to be decorated and dragons to be slain, as they play at being princesses and heroes and other games of that sort. Soon enough, their gleeful shrieks and laughter echo through the trees, adding to the magic and music of the wood.
When they finally tire, they sit in the middle of the clearing; the younger is making crowns out of daisy chains, the older braiding flowers and ribbons into the younger's sleek red hair. Finished, the younger crowns her curly haired cousin as Queen of the Glen; for hadn't she been the one to slay the dragon and save the day? They sip imaginary tea and biscuits and play at being Proper Young Ladies as the air cools, the sun sets, and the shadows slowly lengthen around them.
Eventually they hear their gran calling out suppertime and they hastily gather their things before happily skipping back to the Burrow, hand in hand, leaving a trail of colourful flowers decorating the lush forest floor.
