Oliver's eyes snapped open in the dark of his apartment.

His hand reached out for his wand and he soundlessly got to his feet. He couldn't afford to hang around, listening for the sound again. It had been unmistakable — the squeak of floorboards. Someone was here.

With the war rife in wizarding world, Oliver wasn't going to lie there waiting to be killed.

He didn't understand. He lived in a Muggle neighbourhood, away from any magical dwellings. No Death Eater should have found him here.

Moving to the door of his bedroom, Oliver listened hard. He could hear heavy breathing; it was as though the intruder wasn't even intending to be quiet.

He wrapped his hand around the door and pulled it open.

A shadow shifted in the corner of his vision and he immediately shot a stunner towards it. The blur of red ricocheted upwards, bouncing off a quickly cast shield charm. Oliver snapped his hand back ready to cast again when a strangled voice cried out from the figure.

"Oliver! Oliver, it's me! It's Percy."

A burst of relief flooded through Oliver as he lowered his wand.

"Fucking hell, Perce," Oliver said breathlessly as he fumbled for a light switch. "Give me one good reason not to hex you right now."

The lights finally burst to life above them in the hallway. Oliver's eyes adjusted to the sudden change and then found Percy, drenched from head to toe from the rain. Then he found the reason why he shouldn't hex him. In the red-head's arms was a bundle of blankets, and just visible from the top was a tuff of ginger hair.

"Oh shit..."

Oliver's voice trailed off as he took in Percy's red rimmed eyes and trembling body. There was watery blood dripping from his hairline, down the side of his face. If Percy was here, and Molly was with him, then Audrey. Audrey must be...

The Weasley exhaled deeply like he was preparing for the worst, even though it looked like he'd already been through it.

"I need your help," he whispered. "Please."

"Of course, of course," Oliver stammered in response. "Anything."

With that word he sealed his promise to protect them both. He didn't have to think about it, he'd do anything for the man standing in front of him cradling his daughter.

Anything.
