Scar
These scars, they will not fade away.-Paramore, Emergency
"Meet me in the clearing by the river," Jacob tells Leah. He transforms into a human and runs there, determined to get there before Leah.
Of course, Leah is already there, leaning against a tree, her hair slightly wind swept.
Jacob runs up and kisses her; his lips linger on hers for no more than five seconds.
Before Leah can react, Jacob breaks the kiss and takes out a small black box from his pocket. He kneels in front of Leah, opening the box. "Will you marry me?" he asks, afraid to look at Leah's face.
Leah bites her lip, trying to keep tears of happiness from spilling out of her brown eyes. "Of course," she mumbles.
Jacob carefully removes the ring from the box, gently sliding it onto Leah's hand. His hand stays on hers for a second before he shyly pulls it away and stands up. Unsure of what to do next, Jacob lightly touches a white scar on Leah's neck that stands out from the rest of her brown skin.
"Where'd you get this?" he mumbles.
Leah grimaces. "Sam leaving was a…hard time for me," she says as though that is all the explanation that is needed.
Jacob nods, understanding perfectly. This was something Leah had done to herself, a permanent sign of Leah's pain. Cautiously, Jacob gently rubs one finger along the scar. He wishes he could just blow it away, forget that it ever happened. Leah has her face turned away from Jacob, as if she is afraid to look at him now.
With a quick movement, Jacob bends down and picks Leah up, bride style.
"What are you doing?" Leah asks between laughs.
"Aren't I supposed to do this?" Jacob asks. "Some good luck thing or something like that?"
"Yes," Leah says. "But we're not married yet!"
"Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today." Jacob answers.
"Mmm…" Leah mumbles. "That's good enough for me."
