A/N: This was inspired by a extraordinary piece of fanart from pen-gwyn on Deviantart entitled ME Origins : Commander. It will follow the story of my Spacer/Ruthless, John Shepard and Colonist/Hero, Deirdre Shepard. Please review, watch and favourite.

"If you can give your son or daughter only one gift, let it be enthusiasm." – Bruce Barton

April 11th, 2154 CE:

Hannah Shepard could never been prouder when they handed her little boy. He'd come out into this world, this unknown to him, kicking and screaming, even after they'd placed him in his mother's arms. 'Now that's an Alliance soldier, a fighter right from the start!' his father had joked.

The joke was almost in poor taste, and she'd punched him in the arm for it later. She'd had issues after all bringing a baby, bringing John, into a family with both parents serving, especially given everything that was happening with humanities giant leaps into Space.

Being a 'navy brat' and a 'spacer kid' herself, she wondered if she could truly let her son go through that as well, but looking down into her baby's bright blue eyes, her very centre had seemed to calm itself.

This kid was going to be strong enough to handle it.

April 11th, 2154 CE:

There had been concerns for the babies health, given the mothers exposure to the newly discovered element zero earlier that year and the last thing the government and military needed or wanted was more children turning up with more of the awful cancerous growths.

It reminded so many people of their mortality, and how little they truly knew about the new leaps they were making. It made the mother wondered if she had done the right thing, looking into the Alliance funded groups for space travel and exploration to only have her unborn child feel the repercussions of her, of humanity's, curiosity.

It was a sigh of relief however when the baby girl was delivered as the picture of health, her bright green eyes aware and curious of everything around her, enough to reassure the parents into relooking at the pamphlets.

There was the brief wonderment if their baby, if Deirdre, would forgive them for taking her away from her home planet to live in the unknown of space. But the little girl's excited gurgles as her hands reaching up for her space themed baby mobile greatly encouraged them.

She was reaching for the stars with them.
