Best Seats In The House
The Crucible had docked with the Citadel and the combined forces of the galaxy waged war with the Evil that were the Reapers, praying to whatever powers there were for this not to be where their cycle ended – that for the sake of their children and their children's children, that if they fell here-and-now, that at least they had secured the future.
Age old enemies fought as brothers; Batarian bled alongside Humans, Krogans alongside Rachni and Salarians, Elcor and Volus, Turian, Geth, Quarian, Hanar, Drell and Asari. It was a moment that id they pulled through would change the Universe forever.
However, this was not the focus of Commander Aedan Shepard as he painfully dragged his body passed the ethereal image of the Starchild and towards the console that would end the Reaper threat once-and-for-all.
"Tell Us Shepard, how much of yourself is Synthetic? Are you even Human anymore? Our records indicate you have died, did your Soul pass on? Are you only now a false imitation of The Shepard?" With each word, the Starchild's voice distorted more and more until that of Harbinger rang clearly around the Crucible.
"Forty-Six Percent" Shepard raggedly spoke as his vision blurred from his sustained injuries. "But I'm still Human, deep down where it counts – not whatever latest model of Shepard I'm wearing and, wheeze, we all agree: It's time for you all to reap what you've sown." With a mighty heave Shepard slammed down on the conduit that would begin the end of the Reapers.
A low hum began to build as energy flowed through the Crucible bringing it alive. This was the end thought Shepard as the energy build up began to climb dangerously. Smiling, Shepard let go knowing those he loved would be safe in return for his sacrifice and as the fatigue hit his body he relaxed in what seemed like the first time in decades ignoring the angered diatribe coming from the distorted and flickering Harbinger.
Staring out from where he was sitting Shepard realised he had the best seats in the house, front row and center as the energy became visible all around him with a red hue and pulsed.
So fill to me the Parting Glass,
For if I should rise and you should not,
I'll gently rise and softly call,
Goodnight and joy be to you all.
