He yawned in such an obvious manner that it actually told you that he was bored not sleepy. It was his trademark, he was a simple minded man if he was bored he would express it so without the need of words that would take more energy… he was; in the end, very complicated.
He rested his head against the car window while Lieutenant Hawkeye drove peacefully. She was; sometimes, even more complicated.
"Almost there sir." She reassured him without taking her eyes from the road.
"Ah, I'm just bored." He did seem extremely bored.
He rolled down the window and felt the heat on his face, a soft breeze carrying the scent of summer; he could even hear the loudness of the cigar's creaking.
He sighed.
"Hawkeye?" He hung his arms outside the window and dropped his head on the window frame.
"Yes sir?" She still kept her eyes on the road. How could she be so formal al the time?
"Tell me something interesting." She finally looked at the back of his head almost hanging outside the window. Now this was why people called this work baby-sitting.
"Well…" She started to think of something he didn't actually know about. It wasn't that he was a genius or something, though he was at alchemy. The thing was that he already new everything about her, what could she tell him? Maybe…
"Do you know who Jesus Christ is?"
"Yeah, I guess."
"Really?" She didn't expect him to know that.
"Isn't that what Falman shouts every time something wrong happens. If he's a person he must be a very worried-bad person."
"Well, yes he does say that, but its got nothing to do with it."
"Mmm…" He didn't like not knowing stuff.
"Do you know what week it is today?"
"Uhh… somewhere around the second week of April."
"Right."
"What do both things have to do with each other?"
"Well, when I was very young I remember my mother always did strange things around this season and once I asked her why… She answered it was holy week."
"What?" He looked pretty out of it.
"Holy week. It was this time of the year after eating only fish on Fridays for about a month and going to church everyday; but she mostly prayed… she prayed a lot."
"So this is some kind of religious thing?" No wonder he wasn't interested.
"Yes, my mother was a catholic. She told me this man was amazing he had faced a terrible death to save us all."
"Wow." It sounded pretty dramatic, but he wouldn't dare insult her mother.
"You don't believe much do you sir?"
"Not a very religious person, nah" He considered himself a simple man, but he knew he was complicated.
"You should at least try."
"Yeah I really don't believe I'm worth being cared for like that. I mean being saved by a man that faced a horrible death is just too much to look up to. What did he do anyways?"
"He was nailed to a cross, made of wood."
His face contorted into a scary expression and he felt a shiver crawl up his spine.
"What? That's not human!"
"Of course it isn't, but that was the price he was meant to pay for so many lives."
"How did he save us anyways, I don't remember seeing him hanging anywhere?"
"He saved souls."
He sat back in his seat and rolled the window back up. His soul, that was something he believed he had lost long time ago.
"My soul?"
"Yes"
"Well he lost his time." He was very serious now, but that was exactly why he wondered why was she smiling.
"That's exactly why mother did that every year."
He stared in a funny manner at the confidence in her face and then he saw a thin silver cross dangling from her neck.
"Because it was worth it all."
