Colorado Sky

"What do you think is gonna happen to us, Dean?"

Dean teared his eyes away from the stars and looked over at his little brother. They were in Colorado, sitting on the roof of his girl, drinking beers and gazing up at the stars like they had been doing so much lately.

"Dunno, Sammy. I expect we'll just keep on fighting demons and flirting with girls who haven't the vaguest what kind of world we live in."

Sam stared up at the full moon and knew Dean would say no to this, but he said it anyway.

"We could stay with Bobby."

"Nah."

"Why not? I mean, he is our family."

"I know. But believe me, I'm nowhere near ready to share the same house with him."

Sam laughed and scooted closer to his brother, taking another beer from the cooler on the hood.

"Yeah, that would be scarier than killing wendigos."

They both smiled and were silent for the next few minutes.

"It's gonna be okay, Dean."

The eldest stared at Sam questioningly.

"I mean, Dad's death. It's gonna get easier. We still have each other."

Dean nodded and played with his boots.

"Okay, uncomfortable silence."

"I don't know if I can do all this anymore without him, Sammy."

"What do you mean? That's how we bonded all those months, without him. We do just fine without him."

"I know, we're a great team and all. I'm just saying. Even then we were looking for him. But now, it's over. He's not coming back. He'll never do another hunt with us again. I just can't deal with that right now. I can't."

Sam bypassed Dean's hate for chick flick moments because right now Dean needed his little brother. He put a comforting hand on his shoulder.

"We'll get through it together. Cause I'm not leaving you again. Not after this."

"What? So you were gonna leave when Dad came back?"

"No, that's not what I meant."

"I know. Let's just, not talk about it anymore."

Dean looked back up at the sky but Sam continued to stare at him worriedly.

"Dude, stop checking me out."

"I'm worried about you, Dean."

"Well don't be."

"How can I not be? You're my brother. And I get the feeling that you're going to do something stupid. Like kill yourself."

Dean shook his head.

"I'm not gonna kill myself, Sammy."

"How do I know that?"

"Cause I still got my geek brother to take care of."

"That's not a good reason, Dean."

"Well, it's the only reason I got right now."

Sam sighed and looked away.

"I love you, Dean."

"Dude too intimate."

Dean climbed off the car and Sam followed.

"I'm serious. I'm not going to watch you do this to yourself, Dean. You're killing yourself. Dad's gone okay. You know, I'm broken up about it too. But it doesn't mean I'm going to turn all self destructive. Cause I know what that would do to you. And right now, Dean, right now you're doing it to me."

"Sammy…"

"No Dean. You don't get it. I can't live without you. I need you to be happy or I'm not gonna be happy."

"I get it."

Sam sighed and laughed, tears starting to come to his eyes, thinking about what his brother could easily turn into if he wasn't there.

"Sure Dean, sure. Let's just head back to the motel."

"Bitch."

"Jerk."
