Gift Certificate

"Hi hon." Nick told Jackie who walked down the stairs early one morning.

"Morning, you're home early." She replied as he sat at the kitchen table reading the paper.

"Yeah, it was a slow night." He answered.

She smiled.

"There is a surprise in the fridge for you." He told her.

She looked at him quizzically before she walked over to the fridge.

"Oooh, a frap, thanks Nicky."

"I thought you'd like a morning pick me up." He replied.

"It doesn't matter what time of day it is, I always want a frap, what flavor is it?"

"It's new one, cookie dough."

"That isn't new, I've had it before."

He laughed, that didn't surprise him.

"Well it said it was new on the sign."

"Yeah they don't update their sign very often." She admitted.

"Do you like that flavor?" He asked.

"Yeah." She said as she took it and sat down next to him.

It was only then that she noticed he got one too.

"What flavor is yours?" She asked.

"Toasted marshmallow."

"Yum." She said.

He laughed at her.

"Want to trade?" He offered.

"Nope, this one is good. Thank you." She assured him.

"Hey do you think your mom would watch the kids for a bit tonight?" He asked.

"Probably, why?"

"I got a gift certificate to Benson's (An expensive restaurant), I thought a quiet date night might be nice."

"Who did you get a gift card from Benson's from?"

"Morgan, for watching her cat while she was out of town."

"I am going to beam her, I told her not to do that."

"I tried to tell her that too, I told her it wasn't necessary, but when she threatened to have her dad settle it I shut up and took it. I want as little to do with Ecklie as possible." Nick assured her.

"Well I'll call my mom and see if she'll watch the stinkers tonight." Jackie said.

Later that afternoon Jackie called her mom and asked her if she'd watch the kids.

Her mom agreed to watch the kids so Jackie hurriedly made the kids scrambled eggs for dinner and then got them ready to go, they were excited, they loved it when their grandma and grandpa watched them.

Pretty soon Nick and Jackie were sitting in a fancy restaurant.

"Is it good?" Nick asked once they had begun eating their meal.

"Not really, no, how's yours?"

"It isn't very good either, which is surprising, this place is pretty pricey."

Jackie nodded in agreement.

Not only was it not very good but their meal was pretty small.

On the way to pick up their kids Jackie looked at Nick.

"You know Nicky, I'm embarrassed to say this but I'm still hungry, want to stop for ice cream?"

"Sure, good idea, I'm still hungry too, and who doesn't like ice cream?" He said with a grin.

She laughed.

They stopped for an ice cream cone and then bought a box of chocolate ice cream bars for the kids and her parents if they wanted some.

Despite the meal not being very good it was still an enjoyable evening for the couple, who always loved getting to spend some alone time together.

The End!
