Playing in the Dirt.
Edward and I had just gotten in from school. We set our backpacks down by the door. We would get them when we left the main house for the night with Nessie. Besides Esme we were the only ones home. Jasper had picked Alice up after school since there was a huge sale at one of her many favorite stores. Carlisle was at the hospital. Jake had Nessie to visit my dad for the day. Emmett and Rosalie were out doing something, who knows what. I am glad actually because they have being trying to show Edward and me the right way to 'do it.'
"Edward let's go hunting." Edward just kind of chuckled. I didn't see anything funny about my statement. His eyes were black and I knew mine where the same way.
"Esme seems to think that we should wait a while to hunt." I was confused; Esme always encouraged us to hunt. She was not one to take chances; she usually encouraged us to go a few days earlier than necessary at times. Even though he could not read my mind he did answer the unspoken question of why.
"Rose and Emmett are out there. Esme kicked them out for a few hours. She wanted to have some peace and quiet." I could not help but to laugh.
"That is not funny Bella." Esme said coming into the living room with Edward and I. "There are a few things that a mother wishes that her kids keep private."
All three of us settled down on the couch and were just hanging out. Carlisle had called and said that he would be working a double shift. Edward and I just finished our homework when Emmett and Rosalie walked in.
I am not sure about Edward and Esme but I was trying not to make any sound of laughter, but it was not working. Rosalie who was usually the walking goddess around here had leaves all in her hair. Both of them had dirt on their arms and some on their faces. Emmett's jeans had holes in them, and these jeans were not bought that way.
"You guys look like you got into a fight with Mother Nature and she won." I said teasing them.
"Oh shut up Bella. It seems Esme only builds houses for her favorite children."
"I do not have favorites Emmett. I love all my children equally."
"Then why is it that only Bella and Edward have their own home and the rest of us share with you and Carlisle?" He was only half serious.
"When ever I build you guys one it gets destroyed."
"That and everything else in a ten mile radius." Rosalie said under her breath. We all started to laugh at how true the statement was.
"That is why we are thankful you went out far enough so that you were alone." Edward said probably trying to get some of the images from his mind.
Jake and Nessie had walked in at that moment. Edward smirked at Jake and nodded. Nessie came and sat on my lap placing her hand on my cheek. She showed me a picture of Emmett and Rosalie, wondering if they had played in the dirt since they were covered with it among other things. Edward was holding back laughter.
"Yes sweetie Aunt Rose and Uncle Emmett were playing in the dirt." Everyone burst out laughing. Nessie showed me a picture of herself playing in dirt, which just caused me to laugh even harder.
