Yusei rode down the empty backroad on his motorbike, wind whipping in his face and giving him a sense of freedom nothing else ever had. He ran his tongue over his dry lips, feeling the cold air momentarily relieve the painful cracks.
Ever since he'd defeated Paradox in the company of Yuugi and Jaden, his mind had been reeling with thoughts of the past. He'd never thought of himself as a "dreamer," but after all that, could anyone really blame him? He'd seen what the past had looked like firsthand and he'd talked to the products of those pasts. Jaden…he'd been so happy-go-lucky and carefree. Yusei couldn't imagine having a mentality like that on a daily basis. It was only on the road with his motorcycle that he could achieve that feeling.
He let his bike guide him, take him anywhere it wanted, but ultimately they both wound up on a bridge near sunset, staring at the setting sun as if it would never return. He stayed like that for an hour, maybe more, before finally deciding to head back home.
Driving down the road on an impossibly sunny day, giving power over to his bike and inhibitions to the wind, he felt safe and free. With a smile on his lips and the secure feel of arms tight around his waist….wait a minute. Who's arms were around him?
He slowed the bike to a stop and turned to see who rode with him. Could it be Jack? Crow?
"What the hell?!" Yusei shouted.
Jaden grinned widely. "Everybody gets one!"
Yusei woke with a scream, beads of sweat dripping from his face, clothes saturated and sticking to his body.
Jack sat up in his bed and looked over at Yusei in his. He rubbed his eyes. "What is it Yusei?"
"What? N-nothing, Jack. Go back to sleep."
"Yusei…"
"Nothing. Really."
"Did you have that Jaden dream again?"
"…no…"
Jack lifted the sheets on the side of his bed, hoping Yusei would get the hint. He didn't. Jack cleared his throat. Yusei took no notice, just closed his eyes again and tried to fall back asleep. As he started to drift, Jaden's voice rang clear in his head. "Can I ride your bike?!"
Yusei sat bolt upright with a harsh gasp. Jack could only sigh and shake his head.
"You need to relax, Yusei." Jack said, half concerned, half amused.
"I'm relaxed, Jack."
"You're actually not though."
"Okay then, how do you suggest I relax? If this isn't relaxed, I really don't know what is."
And then Jack turned to Yusei and said "come over here and kick my engines into overdrive."
