Note: This takes place around mid volume 20 of the manga. Prior/In chapter 178. (Yes, I went back and looked for the scene I wanted) I wish I had a japanese copy, but I'm poor. The Dialogue is off of an I don't know how bad translation by pokes at the manga I dunno. Accurate or no it suits my purposes just fine.

--------------------------

Haruno Sakura watched the two people she supposed were now her closest friends, try to kill each other for reasons she couldn't even begin to comprehend. Sasuke was afraid Naruto was stronger, she could see where that might make someone jealous, but not enough to kill. Naruto wanted to be noticed. He always wanted to be noticed, it was annoying really.

Even when it was amusing.

She never could understand why Naruto acted the way he did. She had thought that he was lucky to have no parents to scold him, but slowly she was realizing that wasn't true.

Even so, Sasuke was her hero. He was cool guy, icy and unreachable, and therefore all the more desirable. They say a girl likes a mystery, and there was no one more mysterious than him.

But when it came down to her life, who had saved her? She had automatically assumed Sasuke, but he said Naruto did it. And he wouldn't say that if it wasn't true. She could see how that angered him, the implication that Naruto could do something he couldn't. Not that he couldn't save her, but that Naruto just might be more powerful.

She supposed that what they said was true, a heart filled with revenge doesn't have room to care for others. But she had hoped, and seen him act almost normal before.

And now they had fought, and once more, she was useless. She couldn't even break them up. Kakashi had to. Sakura was again, no help, or very little at that. Sometimes she wondered if she was cut out for this business.

Her main concern during the fight had surprisingly not been for Sasuke, but for them both. She just wanted the fighting to stop. A voice in the back of her mind teased that she maybe liked Naruto also, but she quickly ignored that.

But after, seeing Naruto, who appeared to be just as confused as she had been(even if he appeared furious), she wondered if all the mysteries, all the secrets were worth all this pain. Even though she had promised Sasuke to keep the curse mark a secret, she just couldn't stand it anymore.

"Naruto...I need to tell you something..." She prepared herself to say the next words, worried at the reaction. "I'll go on a date with you, so come with me."

And she told him everything, everything she knew anyway, about Sasuke. About the mark on him, and Orochimaru.

She didn't know what kind of reaction she had been expecting. She wished she had thought this through more completely. If Orochimaru was as strong as Naruto said, then Sasuke would be gone, and she'd never have a chance to tell him how she felt.

"Don't worry! Sasuke won't give into someone like that. He's strong enough as is. I promise!" He let out one of his dazzling idiotic smiles, the kind that makes it seem as if he doesn't have a care in the world. She knew now that was all a mask, an outward face to show a world icy cold with hatred towards him. But a reaction like this...

Sakura smiled and rested her face against her arms. Maybe she had misjudged him.
