He stood in front of the seated members of Eden Advance. His calm outward appearance betrayed nothing of the inner chaos he was actually feeling. The time was drawing near, John realized as he saw Yale step into place. Suddenly needing something to do with his hands, John stuffed them into his pockets for a few seconds instead of wringing them together. He didn't want to be seen wringing his hands together, not today.

Bess flipped a switch and music filled the air. Devon appeared, looking more beautiful than John had ever seen her. She was absolutely radiant. He wanted to look around to see if the other people gathered shared his opinion, but he couldn't look away from her. Devon saw his gaze on her and smiled. John smiled back at her as she walked down the makeshift aisle.

Devon reached Yale and they turned to face him. Yale gave a speech about love and the joys of committing yourself to another person. Then it was time for the vows. Yale turned to Devon first.

"Do you, Devon, take this man to be your husband, to care for, to laugh and to cry with, and to love for the rest of your days?"

Devon smiled the radiant smile of a bride, her eyes shining with tears of infinite happiness. "I do."

Yale turned to Sheppard.

"Do you, Sheppard, take this woman to be your wife, to care for, to laugh and to cry with, and to love for the rest of your days?"

Sheppard gazed at the woman he loved, a brilliant smile gracing his face as well. "I do."

After the vows, Sheppard turned to John. He was filling the old traditional role of the 'best man'. As the best man, he held the ring for the groom. John reached into his pocket and pulled out Devon's ring. As he handed it to Sheppard, he made a silent promise, to himself and Sheppard. If he ever did anything to make her unhappy, he would hear about it from John. Sheppard took the ring and nodded slightly to John. Sheppard understood the message but knew that he could never do anything to hurt Devon.

Sheppard turned back to Devon and carefully slipped the ring on her finger. She smiled at him and grasped his hand, not letting it slip away. They grasped each other's hands and smiled at each other, their gazes filled with love. At the appropriate time, Sheppard bent his head down as Devon raised her head and their lips met in their first kiss as husband and wife. The kiss ended and Sheppard and Devon walked down the aisle to the applause of the rest of Eden Advance.

And their lives together began.
