Half of Me
There was only so much of the wizarding world one person could take, especially when said person was Ted Tonks.
"Sometimes I really miss being a muggle," he groaned, flopping onto the couch after returning home from work one morning.
Andromeda eyed him wearily. "Things can't really be that bad."
"The entire new line of Cleansweeps needs to be recalled," he told her tiredly. "Shunpike got thrown from every one he tried, and the breaking charms aren't worth a knut."
Dora blinked up at her father from where she sat coloring on the floor. "Why would you want to be a muggle, Daddy? Aren't they really strange?"
"Who told you that?" Ted asked, rolling onto his stomach to look at the five-year-old.
"All my friends say muggles are weird and boring and don't have any fun."
"Well, they're mostly right," Andromeda muttered, turning away so she wouldn't catch Ted glaring at her.
"Muggles are not boring," he said angrily. "And I think it's time you learned about your heritage."
:-:
"I don't see why I have to be dragged along on this little adventure of yours," Andromeda said through gritted teeth, gripping her car seat tightly.
"Because you clearly need re-educating on muggles if you still think they're boring. Dora doesn't know any better," Ted explained, stopping the car at a red light. He grinned at his wife. "You can relax, you know. It hasn't been that long since I drove last."
"Still probably would've been safer taking the Knight Bus," she huffed.
"Where are we going, Daddy?" Dora asked from the back seat.
Ted turned around to find his daughter with her nose pressed up against the window, grinning at a dog hanging out of the window of the car next to them. Her hair was rapidly turning pink.
"Remember what I told you about changing your hair while we're outside, sweetheart."
The little girl sighed, scrunching up her face in concentration until her hair turned back to its normal mousy brown coloring.
The light turned green and they were moving again. Andromeda let out a surprised squeak at the sudden increase in speed.
"I'm taking you two to the cinema."
"A movie? That's what all this is about?" Andromeda asked.
Ted pretended to be offended. "Mary Poppins is more than just some movie. It's the perfect representation of the imagination of muggles, and Julie Andrews is a queen."
"I haven't liked any movie you've forced me to watch yet. Don't expect me to be able to sit through this one."
Three hours later…
"Mary Poppins is not a witch!" Ted exclaimed, pulling the car out of the parking lot.
"Of course she is! How else do you explain everything that happened?" Andromeda countered smugly.
Nymphadora happily hummed 'Spoonful of Sugar' in the backseat while her hair shifted colors, out of control.
"You're missing the entire point of the film. It doesn't matter how everything happened."
"Daddy?" Dora interrupted. Ted locked eyes with her in the rearview mirror. "Can we see another movie tomorrow?"
Ted grinned. "Whatever you want, sweetheart."
