The Ward

When the Spanish Flu epidemic hits New York in 1901,Carlisle is doing his rounds and comes around to a woman begging him to help her children.Of those children,Edward,the only boy is in extreme danger of dying.

I do not own Twilight-though I wish I did.

I know from the Twilight novels, that Edward was the only sibling in the hospital and it is not known if he had any brother's or sister's. Also I know Esme was a lot younger than 15 in 1901 and she wasn't Edwards's sister but I wanted to do something different .Please read on and review.

Carlisle POV

As I was doing my rounds, I was called to the contagion ward, where the last rites where being given to a middle aged woman, far too beautiful to die, even through her distorted features I could see the wish to live.

As I came up closer and bent down, the woman asked me weakly if "I wouldn't mind doing her a favour"?

I asked her "what do you have in mind" and then she pointed to two other beds opposite, and quietly murmured "my children please help them".

As I turned around I saw two small figures top and tail in hospital bed, looking frail and fragile. Just as I was about to turn around and reply to her request, she was gone.

When I turned my back to the dead woman, I went over to her children; there lay a boy and a girl, one about 17 the other 3.I could sense that the boy's body was failing, his heart beat fleeting, the girl on the other hand was slowly recovering. I gazed towards the other bed where two girls lay, aged about 10 and suffering from the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1901.

One of the girls was conscious and I asked their names and their mother's. She replied "my mother is called Elizabeth, my brother Edward my sisters Alice, Rosalie and myself Esme, I'm 15, please help us."
