And it starts again.
That same moment, it
starts again.
Stop.
Rewind.
Repeat?
Yes, it does.
You're back at the beginning,
repeating and repeating,
and it taunts you, forces you, begs you
to fix things, no way to avoid it.
But where is it, the
beginning, the true beginning?
Do you remember it?
Stop.
Rewind.
Repeat.
Oh, you've not forgotten it,
you know where it starts,
it's there, deep down
in the heart of the mind
that you're scared to see.
Stop.
Rewind.
Repeat.
You were just a child, but
you believed your own cries of
"I could have saved her!",
and the list of regrets
went on and on, and it
still has yet to end.
But now you are here,
back at the beginning, the
true beginning.
Stop.
Rewind.
Repeat.
There she is,
alone in the snow,
the root of your eternal regrets,
the girl you couldn't save.
And now, though you are a child again,
you will try once more.
You will reach out and refuse
to let go of her hand.
You will remember to cherish that
which you should have done anyway.
And though once again
it taunts you, forces you, begs you
to fix things for sure, it's fine,
it's what you want.
Stop.
Rewind.
Repeat.
"This time, I'll change the future,"
is what you swear.
Yet it cannot be that easy.
These are desperate times,
needing measures to match it.
But this time, you haven't forgotten.
Oh no, you definitely remember it.
Stop.
Rewind.
Repeat.
Making the most of
a repeated childhood,
this is it, your
one final stand.
Once again, you reach out, and refuse
to let go of her, or them,
and in the process,
you will become their hero.
But wait, the tearing apart,
it's starting, too fast,
creeping up without you realising and
now it's too late for you.
You end up stuck, in
the dark, this town
continuing on without you.
Stop.
Rewind.
Repeat?
No, continue.
It doesn't start again.
That same moment, it
won't start again.
And all that's left
is a night you once created
from a tree made up of stars
and the warm notes of her voice
(or could it be hers?)
laughing, joyful, asking you
"Are you stupid?"
I've been wanting to write something for this series for a while, but I couldn't think of a good story idea, so I eventually decided upon some poetry. So, spurred on by the anime adaptation of the Christmas Tree scene, that is what I proceeded to do, and what you have just read is the end result of that. Given that I drafted lots of this on random bits of scrap paper while commuting to and from uni, I'm proud of it.
But, credits should be given where they are due. First, I got some direct inspiration for particular lines from Jayn's (LittleJayneyCakes on YouTube)English cover of the OP song, and as such I've chopped and changed them and used them for my own purposes here. Secondly, coming up with a title for this was hellishly difficult, so I enlisted some help from some fellow Fields of Thoughts members, and it is Alex who came up with the title that I am using here. So thank you, Alex!
Anyway,, that's all I need to say really, so I hope you enjoyed this- and please leave me feedback! It's always appreciated.
((And as an aside, the cover art for this is mine, I drew it especially for this poem. I hope you all like it))
