Ramona is bored out of her skull. She's been in the tiny, dull shop for three hours already, and not a single person has come in. She still has five hours left and she hasn't made a single pound!
Just then, the door opens, jingling the bells that hang on the doorknob as two people stroll nonchalantly in. She is surprised by their sudden appearance, and the first thing Ramona notices is the male part of the duo. The chap wears a brown pinstripe suit with a long, dusty overcoat. He's dressed like a banker! When Ramona looks down, she is surprised to see that he wears a battered pair of trainers.
The girl looks more normal in her orangey-yellow camisole layered under a denim jacket, with her shoulder-length blonde hair tied back in two ponytails. They're both quite good-looking, that's for sure.
The pair strolls around the candy shop arm-in-arm, pointing out various items to each other. Ramona smiles at the sappy, fond look on the bloke's face as he watches the petite girl examine different taffies. After a few minutes, they bring an armload of sweets up to the counter. Ramona rings up their choices and even manages to throw in a few free sweets undetected.
The blonde girl turns to her companion and tells him to go look for a cafe so they can have a late lunch. He calls her bossy and sticks out his tongue childishly, but siles and obeys her commands anyway.
Rmaona hands her two small paper sacks and says, "That'll be eight quid, please."
She hands over a crumpled tenner and tells her with a smile, "Keep the change. Believe me, I know how dull it gets working in a shop."
"Thanks," Ramona answers gratefully, tucking the note into the cash register, "you two make a lovely couple."
She blushes, holding both bags under one arm so she can accept the receipt. "Oh, were not together. Just friends," she stammers nervously as she opens the door.
"Oh. Have a nice day!" Ramona calls after her.
But as she watches through the front window as the tall, thin bloke takes the sweets from her and offers his arm, Ramona knows that if they aren't together already, then they definitely will be soon.
