To everyone else, he was an icon of freedom. He was proof that hope wasn't worthless, that even when the world was going to hell, there was something to live for…somewhere.
She knew better then that, though. As much as he tried to veil it, she saw that he was simply atoning for some great sin he'd committed… or maybe trying to act as God, pretending to himself that he had control. He disgusted her, completely….
But then they'd met.
"You're a thief?"
Her reply had been a sarcastic, mindless slip of words. But his… his was unexpected.
"Thank God."
In that moment, they were the same. Quickly, he had returned to the harsh, condescending jerk-off she'd thought he was before…but for the smallest amount of time, their souls had fit together in understanding, completing the other perfectly.
And for that simple reason, she would later forgive his every wrong.
For that, he would wait for her.
A/N: To me, it seems like Logan was hiding from emotion as much as Max...at least in the Pilot. Max seemd to feel something for him when they were in front of the mirror. He was the one who pulled away, who was using her emotions to get what he wanted (to see if she was Manticore, like he'd thought). (Going off on a tangent: I think, from that, you could argue that Max was only pushing off what she felt for him because she was afraid he would take advantage of her emotions again.) Since this drabble takes place in the pilot, it only makes sense to use that state of mind they were in, in this 'piece'.
So…yeah. :P.
