Normal. A simple word and a simple concept. Normal families were bound by love not by hate revenge. Normal families fought about homework and curfews. They didn't fight about playing sports over hunting.
Normal siblings fought about space and using their things without permission. You weren't supposed to consider your older brother your father. That wasn't normal. Normal families had homes not cheap motel rooms.
Normal was a precious gift the was bestowed upon the lucky and ignorant. Normal means never having to be afraid of werewolves. Normal means that when it's your time to die you die.
But he wasn't normal. And he would never be.
Most parents are thrilled when their kids get into good colleges. They don't kick their kids out of the house. That wasn't normal.
He wanted normal but it was never meant to be.
It wasn't normal to lose the love of your life in a fire, while they were pinned to the ceiling. That was wrong and unfair.
It was out of the ordinary to see his brother weak. It wasn't normal for the strongest person you know to become frail.
But there he was. Standing before him. Ready to fall apart. This wasn't normal. It wasn't normal to be the one who had to look after the protector. After all he was the protected. Always.
It was normal for his brother to brush him off but this time he asked for something.
"Please make it stop." His voice cracked and his eyes full of despair.
He was scared and desperate.
That was not normal by a long shot.
Begging wasn't normal. None of this was.
His brother had been attacked by something nasty and it sure left it's mark. There was a deep purple bruise on his ribs and it was spreading.
Poison seeped into his system and it would take something more than ipecac to fix. Something was heading towards Sam earlier that night and like usual, normal, he got in the way instead.
Normal people don't get attacked by evil beings that go bump into the night while hunting.
Normal people don't go demon hunting.
One thing's for sure. If Sam was normal his brother would die.
Good thing he wasn't normal.
