Up in Flames

"Oh yes, yes, that's it!" Hermione cried. "Just like that, keep going, more, more!"

Severus was grunting in effort, strands of black hair whipping around his face from the rhythmic movements of his body. "I'm close!" he ground out, a bead of sweat trailing down his temple towards his chin. His breathing was harsh, the muscles in his back knotted from exertion.

"That's the spot!" Hermione rasped. "Harder, faster!" she spurred him on. Their eyes met for a moment, and he could see her excitement grow. He redoubled his efforts.

"So close," he ground out, trying to keep his movements in rhythm, but the fast pace was taking its toll. He didn't know how long he could go on like this.

"Don't stop!" Hermione called out, "…so close!"

Her voice rose in volume and pitch. "Oh yes! Almost there! Severus, don't stop! Don't stop!"

"Yes, yes – Ohhhh!" she shouted, as everything went up in flames.

With a satisfied groan, Severus slumped down, coming to rest next to Hermione. He was trying to catch his breath, his heart hammering in his chest.

"I think it's time to demonstrate my skill with blowing," Hermione smirked, licking her lips and lowering her face. He watched her every move and he felt the heat of the fire building.

"Finished!" she yelled, jumping up and waving her fists in the air in triumph. "We did it!"

He chuckled at her. "Don't you think you're being a bit overdramatic? All we did was make fire without using magic."

"Are you kidding?" she replied, "That was awesome! Making fire with sticks like the first men! Plus, we won the teacher's challenge. A bottle of Odgen's finest will be going back to Hogwarts with us."

"You're aware that the rest of the staff will expect us to share? There's not going to be anything left when we crawl into our beds tonight."

"That doesn't matter – the triumph of the win is ours! We were the fastest team to create fire. I'm more than happy." With a joyful grin and a skip, she walked off to collect their bottle of firewhiskey.

Severus watched her leave, thinking naughty thoughts.
