Gaara Sat in front of the gravestone, staring up at the slate-grey rock. Rain poured dawn on him, drenching him in cold water and turning the ground to mud.
He continued to stare blankly at the name carved into the stone. the others, the funeral procession had left hours ago, and the flowers had begun to wilt in the rain.
Gaara wasn't crying. He wasn't moving, and hadn't for a long time his hair was plastered down, cloths soaked and muddy. his eyes didn't leave the name and symbol for a long time. He didn't even blink.
"Why? Why did you do it? You shouldn't have tried to help; they couldn't have killed me. But they didn't hesitate to kill you, did they?" Gaara said aloud to the head stone. "If you had just told me...
If you hadn't gotten involved, you'd still be alive."
Words blazed vividly into his head.
'Gaara,
I don't know how to tell you this, but I havn't got much time to say it anyway. There's a reason I tried to save you, and I don't know how you're going to take it. I love you, Gaara, that's why I did it. I couldn't stand to let you die when I was right there. I couldn't have lived with myself if I had. I only have a few more minutes and I'll be able to die happy knowing at least you'll know how I feel. Alive or dead, I know I'll still love you. I only wish I could have told you "
The letter wasn't finished. Death had called before it was totally written.
Flashback to the night he died
The doctors had read Gaara's name on it, and when he'd rushed in to see the patient, he had been given the letter.
End flashback
Gaara stood up, not bothering to wipe away the tears that streamed down his face, mixing with the water from the rain. He sat back down against the cold stone. Sand slithered out of the gourd and around his wrist, slicing them to the elbows, before cutting open the veins in his throat.
He watched his blood pour over his lap onto the ground. Gaara leaned back and tilted his head up to the crying sky. As the world began to darken and slip or of focus, gaara wispered his last words.
"I love you too, Sasuke."
