The first thing that Ruby felt when she regained her consciousness was the taste of dirt in her mouth. Slowly, she pushed herself from the ground and turned around, now her back was the one on the ground. Ruby started to clean her mouth before sitting up. When she looked around, she saw her teammates lying on the ground, just like her.

"Girls, wake up!" Shouted Ruby as she stood up.

The rest of Team RWBY – Weiss, Blake, and Yang – woke up upon hearing the shout. As they regained their consciousness, Ruby checked Crescent Rose, seeing that it was fine, and then folded it before putting it back.

"Ugh, where are we?" Asked Weiss as she rubbed her head.

"It seems that we're inside some kind of tunnel." Replied Blake before she looked on the ground. "Underground railroad, it seems."

The other three looked down and saw the same thing as Blake; a railroad.

"Alright. So, we're in an underground railroad. Anyone has an idea how we get here? Since I am sure we're nowhere near something that can lead us to the underground." Said Weiss.

"Well, we…" Ruby tried to answer Weiss' question but found out that she couldn't. Every time she tried to remember what happened, her memory was getting blur.

"Rather than thinking about that, what about trying to return to the surface first?" Suggested Blake. "This place gives me the creeps."

"Oh, is the kitty getting scared of the dark?" Flirted Yang.

"No." The way Blake just replied the flirt with direct and neutral voice indicated that she was serious.

"Anyway, Blake's right. We should try to find an exit." Said Ruby.

"OK. Which way to go, then?" Asked Weiss.

Ruby started to think about it. She looked at the two ways available; either simply walk forwards or turn around first. After pondering for several minutes, Ruby decided to take the first route.

Half an hour later…

"Ruby Rose, do you even know where we are going?!" Asked Weiss with a stern voice.

"We're going towards the surface…I think." Replied Ruby with a rather unsure tone.

"Oh, great! Just great! Here we are, in the middle of nowhere. And you, Ruby Rose, our 'esteemed' leader, makes us lost in this stupid tunnel, forever!"

Ruby felt sad due to Weiss' comment. Yang looked at what happened to her sister and decided to give the Ice Queen a piece of her mind.

"Would you stop that?! Ruby is merely trying to get us out! If you really want to get out that badly, then why don't you just – oh, I don't know – blow up a hole upward or find us the correct route!" Exclaimed Yang.

"Weiss, Yang, both of you, please calm down!" Said Ruby immediately.

Blake let out a sigh before she heard something. She focused her hearing on that sound and managed to figure out its identity; a sound of something burning. She went towards the source of the burning and her teammates soon followed when they saw her moving on.

After walking for a while, they saw a campfire. In front of the fire sat a person with his back facing the huntresses-in-training. When they were only few feet away from him, he still didn't realize that there were people behind him. Ruby decided to ask him and grabbed his shoulder.

"Umm, sir? Can you please tell, where are we?" Asked Ruby as she gently shook the man.

The man didn't respond and something actually fell from him. When the girls looked at the object, they found out to their horror that it was a skull. When they looked at the man again, they saw that he was missing his head.

"AAAAAHH!" Screamed Ruby as she jumped back towards where her teammates were, causing all of them to fell.

"Damn it, Ruby!" Said Weiss, displaying her displeasure.

"I-I am s-sorry. B-But the man's h-head…" Ruby tried to make a reply.

Blake silently stood up and inspected the man, now turned out to be a skeleton. From what she could inspect, the man appeared to be already dead for a long time, since he already became a skeleton. Though that left her wondering; why there was a campfire in here?

Blake turned around and looked at her team leader, who was being hugged by her sister who tried to calm her down. She approached Ruby and offered her hand.

"Come on, Ruby. We better keep going." Said Blake.

Ruby stared at Blake's hand for a while before taking it. At the same time, Yang let Ruby out of her hug and stood up herself, followed shortly by Weiss. The team then walked past the skeleton and the campfire, with Ruby having a last look at the former.

When they saw what appeared to be a light at the end of the tunnel, a small hope grew in their hearts. They began to walk in a faster pace. During the walk, Yang suddenly sneezed.

"God bless you, Sis." Said Ruby.

"Thanks, Rube." Replied Yang before she hugged her own body. "By the way, don't you girls think this tunnel is…rather cold?"

"Now that you mention it…" Blake realized that Yang was right. She and others must've been so focused on finding a way back to the surface that they didn't notice the temperature of the tunnel.

That, or it was simply because of Yang's clothing.

When they reached the end of the tunnel, Team RWBY found out that it wasn't an exit; it merely led to a much more spacious tunnel with more lighting. It also appeared to be a bridge since the "ground" didn't reach left and right parts of the tunnel. When Blake went to the edge of the bridge and looked down, she saw that there was a water below. It was a strange water though; appeared to be glowing green.

Suddenly, they heard a sound. The sound seemed to be the one generated by animals. Team RWBY immediately readied their weapons. Then, on the horizons, a pack of animals coming towards their position. Through the scope of Crescent Rose, Ruby gained a better look at them.

The animals were humanoid shape with two arms and legs, arched spines, and large round heads that prominently display big noses, gaping jaws, and huge teeth. From how they approached the team and the looks on their faces, it was obvious that the animals didn't have good intention.

Ruby fired a shot at the most foremost animal. The round penetrated the animal and hit another one behind it. She then fired two more shots, leaving only four animals. Blake and Yang fired their weapons. The animals were killed with one of them flied towards the water below thanks to Yang's shot.

"What are those things?" Asked Weiss. "I never see anything like them before."

"Obviously, they're not Grimm. They might be some local…" Before Blake could finished her answer, another similar animal suddenly appeared from the edge of the bridge.

The cat faunus immediately turned Gambol Shroud into its katana form and stabbed it through its chin before kicking it off the bridge. Soon after, more of the animal's howls could be heard throughout the bridge.

Ruby turned Crescent Rose into its scythe form and waited for the impending attack.

"Team, we don't know how far we are from the exit. So, try to conserve the Dust!" Ordered Ruby.

Weiss, Blake, and Yang agreed with their leader's plan. Ruby moved forward to give herself more space to wield her scythe and minimizing the risk of friendly attack.

When the first wave of the animals approached her, Ruby swiftly swung her scythe. The swung hit all the animals at the front but there were still more behind. She used her semblance to went towards the back of the wave. On the way, she killed as many animals as she could. When she reached the back, the remaining animals immediately turned around to attack her. Ruby immediately swung her scythe and killed most of them except one. For that, Ruby raised Crescent Rose and stabbed it.

At one of the edge, Weiss observed several animals climbed from the edge. She immediately stabbed one of them and let its body fell into the strange water below. The other animals however managed to reach the top and started attacking her. She dodged all attack except one. Thanks to her aura, it did no damage. Weiss clicked her tongue as she knew that without Dust, Myrtenaster lost most of its effectiveness. She let out a sigh before using a White Dust to create whirlwind that propelled the animals off the bridge.

Before Blake could decide which of her teammates that needed her help the most, she heard a sound of several creatures coming from the smaller tunnel behind them. When she looked back, she saw several animals approaching her. She threw Gambol Shroud as she ran towards the animals. It hit one of them and it fell, blocking the way for others. One of them tried to climb its dead companion, but Blake killed it using her sheath. Then, she jumped and landed at another animal before stabbing it with her katana. The last one attacked her, but she turned out to be merely a shadow. Blake then used the combination of katana and sheath to kill it.

Yang was guarding the other edge and just like on Weiss' side, the animals were climbing to get on to the bridge. Yang ran towards them and punched them off the bridge. The animals that managed to get on the bridge attacked her, but their attacks merely making Yang's attacks stronger. The fates of the animals that attacked were either being punched off the bridge or being smeared into the ground.

As Team RWBY fought off the animals, there were suddenly series of gunfire.

"I said conserve the Dust!" Exclaimed Ruby.

"That's not me!" Replied Blake.

"Me neither!" Replied Yang before punching another animal.

"I am not using it now!" Replied Weiss.

After hearing her teammates' replies, Ruby tried to focus on the gunfire. From the loudness, she realized that they came from the other side of the bridge. She then saw several animals that wanted to attacked them suddenly turned around.

"There's another person here! Other side of the bridge!" Exclaimed Ruby.

"What?!" Said Yang in surprise. She then also saw the animals going towards the other side. "He's going to be overwhelmed."

"Then we've to help him!" Ruby immediately dashed towards the other side of the bridge.

"Ruby, wait!"

Ruby didn't listen to what her sister said. The only thing in her mind was getting to that person as soon as possible before he got overwhelmed by these animals. The way there was not easy though; there were many remnants of trains blocking the way, holes on the ground, and some animals decided to just attack Ruby. In desperation, she used her bullets to get there faster and flew towards her destination.

Then, suddenly, the gunfire stopped.

"Oh, no."

When she landed, she saw several animals were swarming over something. Ruby knew that that something was someone because there was a human's voice – in pain – coming from the animals. She planted Crescent Rose and started shooting at the animals. After she killed all of them, she immediately ran towards the man.

"Hey, are you…alright?" Asked Ruby before she covered her mouth with her hand.

The man's entire body was covered with bite marks. There were also marks on his head and neck, indicating how much chance the man had to survive; very little.

Ruby was so shocked by what she saw that she didn't realize one of the animals was raising its hand to attack her. However, there were gunfire's sounds and suddenly the animal dropped dead. Ruby turned around and saw her teammates were catching on her.

"I told you to wait! You almost get yourself killed!" Exclaimed Yang as she went towards her sister.

"I…I am sorry, Yang. I am just trying to save him, but…" Replied Ruby as she gestured on the man.

Yang gritted her teeth upon seeing the man's fate. She then resumed the fighting with the animals and Ruby soon followed. After a while, they managed to kill the last of the animals. With the area cleared, Blake approached the man and checked his pulse. She wasn't surprised when she didn't find any. She looked at her teammates and shook her head. Blake then looked near the body and found a firearm, which she then picked up.

"What's that?" Asked Weiss who looked at the weapon in Blake's hand.

"It appears to be the deceased man's weapon." Replied Blake.

"That…is…the ugliest weapon that I've ever seen!" Commented Ruby as she recoiled in horror.

She wasn't wrong. The firearm looked like someone decided go grab a piece of metal, a pipe, a firing pin and then cobbled them into a firearm. Which might actually how the weapon be created in the first place. From what appeared to be magazine (which only had the frame and no cover for the bullets), it was reloaded sideway.

"Well, it's clear from the weapon that the man is not from the military. Militia, maybe?" Suggested Weiss.

"Perhaps. In any case, I think we just find a solution to travel through the tunnel fast." Said Blake as she pointed at a railcar.

"That's good." Said Ruby in response before looking at the body. "Oh, don't forget about him. The least we can do is delivering his body to his family after we reach the surface."

Yang nodded and – alongside Ruby – carried the body towards the railcar. Blake inspected the car to see how it worked while Weiss watched the area, making sure that the team wouldn't get caught off-guard by anything hostile.

After Ruby and Yang put the body in the railcar, the huntresses-in-training embarked the car. Blake sat at the "driver" seat and started the car. The railcar slowly moved and went towards the direction where it came from.

It was not even five minutes before Team RWBY heard those howls again. They looked towards the rear of the railcar and saw several of the animals were following them. Blake decided to increase the speed of the car, but then she made a mistake; she accidentally broke the lever that controlled the speed.

"Oops." Commented Blake as her teammates simply stared at the handle in her hand.

While the railcar increased its speed and made it possible for the team to escape without killing more, it kept increasing its speed. While Blake didn't know the speed limit of the car, she believe that it was about to reached its maximum speed since she started to feel…dizzy.

"It's too fast, Blake! It's too fast!" Exclaimed Ruby.

"Aren't you used to high speed, Rubes?" Asked Yang though she admitted that the situation wasn't exactly the right one to ask.

"Only if I can control the speed!"

The girls tried to stay on the railcar, holding anything that can be used as handgrip. Suddenly, Blake and Weiss saw a wooden wall in front of them. The latter grabbed Myrtenaster and tried to destroy it. But before Weiss could pulled the trigger, she realized that it would be too late and opted to brace for impact.

The railcar crashed through the wooden wall, but it still moved at high speed. Then, it crashed through another wooden wall. Then another.

"Just how many walls are there?! How could that man even reach the bridge?!" Commented Yang.

After the railcar crashed through even another wall, Blake gathered the courage to look what was in front of them. To her shocked, it was none other than the end of the rail!

"Look ou…!"

Before Blake could finished her warning, the railcar hit the buffer, sending it and the passengers into the air. While the railcar simply landed and only moved several inches from its landing place, Team RWBY hit the ground and kept moving, either getting propelled back into the air and rolling through the ground. To make the matters worse, there were a lot of boxes in wherever they were. They broke through them and yet those didn't stop them.

Finally, the girls stopped moving and lied on the ground. Due to the last sudden crash, they were unable to completely protect themselves using their aura. It was kind of hard to do so when you're unable to focus.

The last thing that Ruby saw before she lost consciousness was the feet of someone running towards her.

Two hours later…

Slowly, Ruby opened her silver eyes and looked around. She saw that she was inside a room and was lying on a bed. She rubbed her head as she tried to sit up. After a while, she stood up and walked around the room, seeing that she was alone.

When she opened the door and looked what was on the other side, she saw Yang lying on a sofa, apparently only woke up recently, not unlike her. When she looked on the floor, she saw Weiss and Blake lying on a mattress. Both of them were also waking up.

"Ugh! Anyone know how we get here?" Asked Yang.

"I don't know, sis. But…"

Before Ruby could finish her sentence, they heard a door being opened before being closed. Ruby walked towards the source as her teammates stood up from wherever they were lying previously. When she got her eyes on the door, Ruby also saw an old man walking towards her position. He looked surprised at first before his face became warmer.

"Ah, I see that you've wake up." Said the old man with a strange accent.

"Y-Yeah, sir." Replied Ruby rather awkwardly. "Oh, almost forgot. Thank you for bringing us here."

"Oh, no. I didn't do that. Granted, I did give a hand but your thanks should be for Лето (Leto)."

"L…Le…to…?" Ruby tried to pronounced the name, causing the old man to laugh.

"Correct. She's currently getting some supply and will return soon. She asked me to watch over you until you wake up."

"Ah, I see."

"Sorry, young girl. But would you mind if I go for a while? I have some business to take care off."

"Oh, no, it's not a problem. We can take care of ourselves."

"Good to know, then."

With that, the old man walked back towards the door and exited the…whatever place Team RWBY was. Ruby returned to her teammates and saw that they were inspecting their weapons. She also saw Crescent Rose on a table. She probably didn't notice that due to just waking up.

"So, who's that guy?" Asked Blake.

"Someone who gave our helper a hand. He said that she will return soon and we better don't go anywhere until she's back." Answered Ruby.

"You sure that's a good idea? We don't even know the look of the person who saved us." Stated Weiss.

"Well, if she wanted to do bad things to us, she'll just leave us on the railroad." Replied Yang.

"Or maybe because she intended to sell us to some slave market!"

"Now, you're just being melodramatic, Ice Queen."

"Don't call me that!"

As Team RWBY argued with each other, they didn't notice that the door that the old man used was opened once again. That person was carrying a box filled with a lot of stuff. So much that it covered most of her upper body.

The woman seemed to be familiar with the place as she managed to navigate herself through the furniture. To be fair, there wasn't that many furniture in the first place. When she arrived at where the huntresses-in-training were, still arguing with each other, she placed her box in the nearest table, alerting the girls.

"Well, it's good to see that you're all awake." Said the woman as she looked at them.

The girls looked at the woman who greeted them. She was wearing a uniform and carrying things that screamed "soldier" and "military." The woman has a fair complexion, gradating black-into-red hair, and – what stood the most – silver eyes.

Weiss and Blake were intrigued with the woman's appearance. But that was nothing compared to the shock that Ruby and Yang felt, to the point that their jaws were dropping.

"Hello, sweethearts. Long time no see." Said the woman as she made a warm smile.

Ruby tried to make a word and found it very difficult. Finally, she managed to let out one word.

"Mom?"
