It was a fine sunny day in the meadow. The birds were tweeting here and there, the butterflies are fluttering and the bees were buzzing. A wide variety of flowers bloomed in almost every corner. Under a large tree sat a brunette young woman of her early twenties, reading a book aloud. On the branch sat her younger sister of around ten years of age, lazing around but listening attentively with her cat.
The young woman, named Mathilda, saw a dramatic change in her sister Alice, particularly in her imagination and her view of books and history lessons. It had been almost three months since Alice's dream of her adventures in Wonderland, and things had started to get better. Alice became interested in books without pictures and, as a result, her imagination improved. Her world had widened because of her love of reading.
Now Mathilda's story for the day is about the adventures of Robin Hood and his gang in the Sherwood Forest. It became an instant interest to Alice that she ever wanted to join Robin and his gang in their adventures.
"And so," Mathilda narrated, "Prince John declared Robin Hood an outlaw because of his grave but heroic act of robbery."
"Stupid Prince John," Alice grumbled. "He must be put to death!"
"Indeed," Mathilda chuckled before continuing her story. "The outlaw Robin Hood stole from the rich to help the poor people of Nottingham."
"Ah!" Alice's blue eyes sparkled with appreciation. "That was a heroic act! I wish I could help the poor, too!"
"You could," Mathilda smiled. "But first, let me continue the story. One day, a tournament was held. The contestants, including the Sheriff of Nottingham, competed in the archery skills for the knighthood and the hand of the lovely Maid Marian."
"Maid Marian? I wish I could meet her face-to-face!"
"My dear child, the story is only a legend," her elder sister admonished. "We don't know if it is true or not. And yes, it occurred only long ago. So I think this is a silly and nonsense…"
"Nonsense?" Alice repeated. That was the word she had not heard for almost three months. "I don't care if it is nonsense or not, I will make it come true!" With that, Alice went down the branch carrying Dinah and stormed away.
"But, wait!" Mathilda pleaded, but Alice ignored her.
Alice frowned as she passed by a pool. "Oh well. Dinah, if only I can join Robin Hood and his gang in their adventures, then my curiosity would be satisfied. Would you agree?"
Dinah mewed and shaked her little head.
"If only I could live in Nottingham long ago," Alice continued, "then I would help the poor just like Robin Hood. Someday I could defeat Prince John and be made the heroine of the Sherwood." With that, she went down to the pool and put her finger in the water as she sang a little tune:
Someday my world will be a wonderland…
