I Never Knew

I never knew happiness

Until I heard your laughter

I never felt complete

Unless we were together

I never knew sadness

Until I witnessed your tears

I never felt protective

Until you confessed your fears

I never knew depth

Until I gazed into your eyes

I never experienced freedom

Until the moment you spoke and made me feel alive

My determination to become a better person

Intensified with you by my side

The barriers surrounding my heart broke down

With each gentle kiss, my insecurities gradually died

With you I had found the meaning of true love

And I finally felt complete

Little did I know that this wouldn't last

My heart would soon know the worst defeat

You passed away in my arms

As tears spilled from my eyes

I held onto you as if my life depended on it

My heart broke as I realized this was goodbye

My whole world fell apart

And I learned the meaning of pain

As I realized I would never hear your laughter

Or be able to stare into the depths of your eyes again
