Ares and Eris

Gwen and Duncan were sitting on the ground at their secret spot gazing at the stars. Duncan looked over at Gwen and noticed how the moonlight illuminated Gwen's skin and made her eyes sparkle. They'd been silent for a while and he noticed the faraway look in her eyes.

"Hey Sweetheart, what's on your mind?"

She turned to him and let out a sigh. "I was just thinking about Greek mythology."

"What about it?"

"I was thinking about my favorite goddess and how she should've ended up with this one god, but he was with another goddess."

"Which ones?" Duncan asked curiously.

"My favorite goddess is Eris, goddess of chaos and discord, and I wanted her to be with Ares."

"He was the god of war, right?"

"Right. But sadly he ended up with Aphrodite, goddess of beauty and love."

Duncan stopped to think for a moment. "I thought I heard somewhere that Eris and Ares were twins?"

Gwen scoffed, "Look at you. Never expected a juvenile delinquent to know so much about mythology."

"It was the only part of high school I was awake for. I thought having a god of war was badass."

She nodded, thinking that Duncan sleeping through class was something entirely believable. "That's one theory, but I don't believe that. Ares was the only child of both Zeus and Hera and since they were always butting heads, that made Ares the manifestation of their relationship. I believe the story that says Eris was the daughter of the goddess of night, Nyx. Hera and Zeus were always at war, but it wasn't exactly chaotic; not in my opinion. The war between them seemed pretty straightforward to me," Gwen explained. "And besides, I don't like Hera and I'd rather not associate her with my favorite goddess."

Duncan nodded, then asked, "Why do you think Eris and Ares should've ended up together instead of Ares and Aphrodite?"

"I don't like Aphrodite."

"Why not?"

"'Cause she's a bitch."

Duncan smirked, "How would you know that?"

"Look at what's she done to me! She waits 16 years to give me a boyfriend, then one she finally gives me one she still gives me hell. She lets him kiss Heather, then it turns out she gave me a crazy boyfriend who no one even realized was crazy until recently. Which, by the way, caused my first relationship ever to end today! Plus, by giving him to me, he got voted off tonight!" Gwen yelled throwing her hands up in the air.

Duncan raised his hands as if to surrender. "Okay, I get it, she's a bitch."

Gwen turned her gaze to the stars and let out another small sigh. "But mainly it's because I can't possibly think of anything the two might've had in common. I mean Aphrodite might have been a good lay, but I don't think that should be the only thing that matters in a relationship. I mean, Eris and Ares would go off and raise hell together and had fun doing it. They were really good friends and really close. I can't picture Aphrodite doing that sort of thing. I think there was a physical attraction, which is good, but that dies out and when it does the relationship dies too. I think Ares should've been with someone he could've had fun with and had things in common with, not just someone who was really hot. I think that Eris and Ares could've been good together, wreaking havoc on the world."

Duncan snickered, "Wow Sunshine, that is pretty twisted."

She laughed, "I know, but it just seems right. Ya know?"

"Yeah, I know."

Duncan looked toward the stars and thought about the havoc he wreaked on this show. He played some of his best pranks this season and had an awesome time with Gwen doing it. He loved messing with the other competitors and loved it even more now that he had someone who could plan with and enjoy them with.

"You know what Sweetheart? I think Ares should've ended up with Eris too."

...

A/N: And there you have it! The idea popped into my head and I had to write it down before I had a chance to forget. I love Eris and Ares. Me and Aphrodite don't exactly get along.
