Chapter 2

Chapter 2

"Jeannie, I'm home!" called Tony as he entered his house. He immediately noticed something was strange. The hallway was dark and empty, no sumptuous dinner lay on the dining table, and the house was completely silent.

"Jeannie?" Tony called nervously. "Where are you? Jeannie?" He peered in her usual purple bottle, but she was not inside.

Jeannie suddenly appeared in front of him, dressed in a shimmering red strapless dress, and her face streaked with tears.

"What's wrong, Jeannie?" Tony asked, resting his hands on her shoulders and hoping to see what was wrong in her puffy blue eyes.

Jeannie sniffed, and shook her head. "You do not have enough time for me, Master," she sobbed, "You do not even want a genie around the house. All I ever hear from you is, lay the table, Jeannie, give me my paperwork, Jeannie, don't use any magic, Jeannie..." She trailed off with another sob.

"Hey, that's not true!" Tony exclaimed. Then, looking at her teary face, he relented. "Okay, maybe I have been a little busy lately. But you have to understand, Jeannie, I'm a major at NASA. That's a big commitment and –"

Then Jeannie said the words he had been dreading to hear. "You do not want me to marry you!"

Tony stood, shocked with the power of this realisation. "Now, Jeannie, let's be sensible here," he said weakly, "You know our relationship is purely-"

"Just yesterday you were going to propose to me," Jeannie cried, "Oh, Master, I was so sure you would!" She sobbed and was just about to blink herself away when Tony caught her by surprise and kissed her. As their lips touched, it was like a glimpse of heaven –the sweetest, warmest kiss they had ever shared. Everything was said in that kiss. As he let go, Tony didn't even need any words to ask. He looked into Jeannie's eyes and knew she agreed. They were going to marry.
