I am working on my other Death Note story, but I wanted to go ahead and write a short story. This takes place on the roof in episode 25, I think. If you know, and I'm wrong, kindly correct me.
I do not own Death Note, or any of its characters, but neither do you. But I do own a Death Note messenger bag. Do you?
This is in Raito's point of view.
Flashback
Searching for Ryuuzaki, L, Lawliet, whoever you prefer, I began to reconsider my plan. Lawliet had been my one true friend. He said he didn't want me to be Kira, because I was his friend. He was a strange man, almost like a child. He had no family except for an old man named Watari. He had no family, no friends. What would it be like to grow up with no one?
Opening the creaky door descending into the rooftop of the building, I saw Lawliet standing in the rain, alone. He seemed to be oblivious to my arrival.
"Ryuuzaki." I called out. Even though I knew his name, I couldn't write his name down. I could of easily written down his name, but I couldn't… he was my… my friend.
"Ryuuzaki." I called out again, this time a little louder. He turned to me with an expression I've never seen on his face before- sadness. When he saw that it was me, his face quickly changed back to his normal expressionless face.
"Ryuuzaki, what are you doing out here?" I called out again. He leaned his ear towards me in the 'what did you say?' manner. I repeated my question. Ryuuzaki grinned and put his hand to his ear. Fed up, but amused, I walked over to him.
"I said, what are you doing out here?"
"Can you hear the church bells?"
"What? I don't hear any bells." Ryuuzaki ignored me. "There must be a wedding going on." he continued, "Or maybe a funeral."
I didn't question his speculation; he was a world famous detective, after all. I stared out into the bleak, dark sky. It was raining, and we were both soaking wet. The heavens must of known what was going to happen, and were already mourning.
"Come on, Ryuuzaki. We're getting soaked." I made my way to walk to the doors and into the warm shelter of the building when I was stopped by something, or someone holding me back. I looked behind me to see a sight I thought I would never see in my entire life.
Ryuuzaki was clinging to me, in a warm embrace. After only a second he released me and made his way to the rooftop doors. "Come on, Raito, you don't want to get a cold, do you?" he asked over his shoulder. I followed him.
End flashback
Running, with nowhere to go, I knew I was about to die. In a mad frenzy, I had revealed to Near and to everyone that I was in fact Kira. Kira, the mass killer. Kira, the person who had eluded so many. Kira, Lawliet's friend.
Finding shelter in an old warehouse, I laid down on the stairs. My life was almost over, but I had done it. Lawliet was dead. My friend was dead. I thought back and wondered of it was really worth it. part of me said it was, the Kira part, but the other part, the true Ratio, didn't think so.
But it was too late. Death was on my doorstep, waiting to take me to no place. There would be no heaven or hell for me. My soul, if I still had one, would be destined to wander forever.
The world was slowly becoming blurry. The edges of everything were becoming black. There I was, dying. As my eyes closed, one last thought, one last word, ran through my head…
Lawliet.
