A/N: Okay, this is sort of on the mushy side. I just thought it was a good song and fit along with Sam and Jack. Like it? Hate it? Just let me know. The lyrics belong to James Blunt.
The first time had had seen her hadn't been at the SGC. It had been at some ball for the big wigs. She hadn't wearing her dress blues. Instead, she had been wearing an a-symmetrical dress of a deep blue color. He remembered because it had matched her eyes.
He had seen her face across the crowded room of people. Admirals, generals, even the President of the United States had been there. But, he hadn't seen any of them. He had only seen her in that moment. And for the first time in a long time, he wasn't sure how to react.
He was going to move towards her, to talk to her, but was stopped when a man came up and took her arm, kissing her gently on the cheek. She had smiled up at the man gently and allowed herself to be lead onto the dance floor.
His date, a friend from the academy, had accompanied him to the dance. He lead her onto the floor, even though he hated dancing. But, he knew he'd be able to catch her eye.
She rested her head on her date's shoulder. From across the floor, she caught his eye and smiled softly. Their gazes locked for a moment, then he turned away when the song ended, leading the woman he was with off the floor.
"Sam, are you ready to leave?" She looked up and met Jonas' eyes, nodding softly. She looked over her shoulder to the man that had caught her eye and watched sadly as he sat at a table, looking bored.
"Are you alright," Jonas asked, noticing Sam's distraction.
"Yeah, I'm fine," she said, "Just tired." She tucked her arm into his and walked out with him.
Officer Jack O'Neill looked away as the woman walked with her date. It was strange to have just seen a woman, then watch her walk away with a heavy heart. He had seen the engagement ring on her hand. He knew he'd never be with her. With a sigh, he took his date's arm and left the ball. He hated these things anyways.
My life is brilliant.
My love is pure.
I saw an angel.
Of that I'm sure.
She smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man.
But I won't lose no sleep on that,
'Cause I've got a plan.
You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw you face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.
Yeah, she caught my eye,
As we walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was
Flying high
And I don't think that I'll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last till the end.
You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw you face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.
You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she thought up that I should be with you.
But it's time to face the truth,
I will never be with you.
