………………………………..
Every year on the same day and time he would go there. He'd walk across the freshly cut grass and sit down under the shade of a tree. He would sit there for hours, just to be with her and to feel her next to him. It had become a ritual. When he got married he would tell his wife that he just needed a day to himself. He'd leave at nine am and come home at six pm. As his family increased the hours he spent with her on his day seemed to disintegrate, but he would always go, even if he only spent an hour or two with her. His wife would ask him every time he came home from his day "where have you been"; his response would always be the same "visiting someone". He decided that he'd never tell his wife about where he would go or who he would see on that day. Only a few knew about where Danny would go on that day.
Danny's day came again. He got up had a shower, ate breakfast and was headed down the hallway to the front door when he was interrupted by two pairs of arms grabbing his legs. He looked down and saw his two children sprawled on the floor holding his legs.
"Don't go Daddy" Said the youngest
"Yeah Daddy play a game with us" urged the elder out of the two.
Danny knelt down so he could see both of the kids "I can't right now, remember its Daddy's day, how about this afternoon"
"Danny you can have your day tomorrow. Play with them" His wife said with a small smile as she walked into the hallway.
"You know I can't. It has to be today" Danny replied as he got up and put his coat on.
"Where are you going?" she asked
"I'm going to visit someone" Danny said as he closed the front door behind him.
…………………………………….
Danny was now seated under the shade of the tree. As he closed his eyes he could feel her arms lace around his shoulders and her head nestled in the crook of his neck. He could feel the silk of her skin glide over his arm. The moment was interrupted as Danny heard someone coming towards him. He opened one of his eyes and saw Don Flack sit down next to him.
"What are you doing here?" Danny asked wanting to be alone with her.
"What I'm not alone to visit someone and you are" Don replied with a smirk. A few moments of silence passed, then Don decided to talk "You loved her Dan we know, but you can't keep doing this"
"Nah" Danny said shaking his head the tears started to well up in his eyes "…I still love her. She's…She's all I ever had"
"Yeah but now you have a wife who loves you, and two kids who love and adore you." Don said as he got up and held a hand out to Danny.
Danny looked over to her then back to Don. He held out his hand and grabbed Don's hand. "I'll meet you at the car"
Danny took the three strides it took to get to where she lay. He knelt down and placed a hand on the large stone in front of him. He stared at the words engraved on the stone, there were hardly enough on there to even come close to how much she meant to the people that loved her.
