A/N: So, I was watching a little bit of Soul Eater recently, and this idea popped into my head. I absolutely love Justin Law, both anime and manga, and here is a story about my favorite pairing with him, which unfortunately there isn't much of.
Justin's job was simple, and that was to kill Buttataki Joe and blame it on Stein. It was probably the easiest thing a person could ever do.
So why was he being so hesitant?
He really didn't know why, but it seemed that a part of him just wouldn't succumb to the madness of the Kishin, which was odd for him because he could've sworn that he fully gave himself to it. He never had this problem before, so he had to ask himself what his problem was now.
'What is wrong with you?! Stop shaking, pull out your blade and kill him!' His inner madness told him, but still Justin wouldn't budge from the alleyway. BJ was right around the corner too, so it was either kill him first or get spotted and taken back to the DWMA. Justin fell to his knees, hugging himself tightly with sweating pouring down his face. He didn't even notice the footsteps getting closer.
"Maybe she is checking up on Stein, it is her job after all, or she could-" BJ stopped talking as he turned his head to the alleyway on the corner of his eye. He walked in closer to get a closer look at the silhouette.
"Justin, what are you doing here of all places? Shouldn't you be somewhere else, praising Shinigami-sama?" BJ didn't get an immediate answer. He got closer and noticed a big maniacal grin on Justin's face. He was chuckling in a deranged manner. BJ widened his eyes, finally figuring it out.
"Justin, I think we need to get you to Shinigami-sama, you must have been exposed to a lot of the madness." BJ tried to get him to stand up, but Justin didn't budge. He instead turned his gaze to BJ before pushing him to the wall and transforming his arm into his signature blade.
"Justin! Stop this right now, you can't let the madness take over!" Justin's grin began to falter a little, but he kept his stance.
In another part of Death City
Today was a day that Azusa found herself particularly bored. Sid apparently thought that she was overworking herself so he decided for to take a break and leave all the work surrounding the Kishin up to him and Nygus. She thought what he was saying was bullshit, but he insisted on it. She was heading on over to a nearby coffee shop when she heard the grunting of someone nearby.
'That voice...it's coming from up there!' Azusa didn't waste any time at all and sped up, getting closer and closer the voice until she came to the same alley where BJ was being held hostage by Justin. She widened her eyes at the sight of what she saw.
"Justin! What the hell is the matter with you?!" She exclaimed as she grabbed Justin and pulled him away from BJ and pinned him to the wall.
Justin shifted his gaze to the bespectacled death scythe. Azusa. For some reason, he found himself being calmed down at the sight of her. He could feel a warmth in his once thought ice cold heart as he retracted his blade from his arm and slowed down his breathing. Azusa took notice of this quickly and asked the question that was on her mind.
"Justin, are you feeling alright?" She asked. The executioner's answer was slow and hoarse.
"Kishin-sama...forgive...me..." Azusa wasn't expecting this. That was when BJ stood up.
"It's the madness. It caught me by surprise too, he is probably the last person I expected to be affected by the madness. I was going to take him to Shinigami-sama to see if he could he help when he suddenly attacked me." Azusa looked back at her fellow death scythe. She could see the effect the madness had on him, but she had to wonder why he would hold BJ hostage and not just kill him on the spot. Silently sighing, she took his arm and placed it over her shoulder.
"C'mon Justin, I'm sure Shinigami-sama will be able to help."
In Death's office
Death and Spirit were minding their own business when in barged in Azusa, Justin, and BJ. Death turned around and gave them his normal cheery greeting.
"Hello there Azusa, Justin, BJ! What brings you three here tonight, and are you feeling okay Justin, you look a little pale." Azusa and BJ then explained Justin's condition to Death and Spirit, and by the end, they were certainly surprised to say the least.
"Well, this has certainly come as quite a shock, I would never have guessed that someone like Justin would be affected by madness so easily." Said Death seriously.
"I believe he has been exposed to it very recently, probably when you sent the students to try and get BREW. We were wondering if you could offer something that might be able to help him." Said BJ. Death just sighed.
"Unfortunately, Marie has to keep an eye on Stein at the moment, and there doesn't seem to be anyone else with a healing wavelength around." He responded.
"So what are you saying, that you're just going to have Justin locked up until all this shit with the Kishin is over?" Asked Spirit.
"It seems like that is the only option right about now. We can't let him anywhere outside with how much madness he has been exposed to, probably even more than Stein."
Azusa widened her eyes at this. She didn't expect this to be what Death would say. She didn't see how keeping Justin locked up was going to help him in any way. She wasn't going to have this.
"Wait Shinigami-sama! Can I make an offer?" She asked. Death looked at her curiously.
"Alright, I'm listening."
"If you're going to lock Justin up, then...let me stay with him for a while." She offered. This got a look of utter shock from everyone, especially Justin. Even Azusa didn't know why she offered, she was mainly busy with Sid and Nygus.
"Hmm, well, this does seem to be like an interesting offer, although I'm not exactly sure if that is the best course of action." He said. Azusa persisted however.
"Trust me on this, I can take care of myself, I am a death scythe after all. Also, when I found Justin pinning BJ and stopped him, he did seem to calm down considerably." They couldn't see it, but behind the mask, Death was surprised at how Justin managed to settle down so easily. He stayed silent for a moment before clearing his throat and speaking up again.
"Well, if that's the case, and if you truly are sure of this, then you have my permission to watch over Justin. Just be sure to stay safe and go to see Sid and Nygus whenever they call for you." Azusa nodded before looking back at the troubled weapon. Her troubled comrade.
Her troubled friend.
Dungeons
Azusa carried the blonde to his temporary holding cell. They finally found where he was going to be staying when Justin, for the first time that night since the alleyway incident, spoke.
"Why...?" Azusa looked at him confused for a second, before realizing what he meant.
"Why not?" She replied simply before opening the door to where he would be staying.
The room itself was rather bare. It had a small bed on the right side of the room, and besides the shackles, that was all the place had to offer. Slowly, Azusa sat Justin down on the bed and gently had him lay down. She then walked over to where the shackles were and went to put them on Justin. Once she was done and made sure he couldn't use his arms or legs, she sat down next to him and looked at his still form with clear sadness in her eyes. It hurt her to see him like this, and her hatred for the Kishin would increase ten fold after today. Justin mumbled something, but Azusa didn't quite catch it.
"What was that?" She leaned closer to hear what he was saying.
"My...headphones...please...turn on...my music..." He requested a little more clearly. She didn't see a problem with letting Justin listen to music, so with a light shrug, she pulled the cords of the headphones he wore until she pulled out a small music player. She hit the play button and set it down behind his head. In that moment, Azusa didn't know if her eyes were playing tricks on her, but she could've sworn she saw a light, genuine smile on his lips as he slowly closed his eyes.
"Thank you." He whispered before falling asleep. Azusa smiled and rubbed his cheek a little. She then took a quick glance at one of his headphones. She always did wonder what he listened to, so very carefully, she took one of them out of his ear and put it in hers. It had a strange rhythm to it, and the lyrics were even stranger in her opinion, but somehow, it managed to make her smile wider. Eventually, the song managed to make her calm down too before she too closed her eyes and unintentionally fell on the bed next to Justin, joining him in the land of dreams.
The morning
It took a while for Azusa to adjust to the darkness of the room she was in. She rubbed her eyes a little before stretching her arms. She looked to her side to see Justin was trembling in his sleep, sweating bullets. She touched his forehead, causing him to stop his tremblibg and calm down a little.
"You have nothing to worry about Justin. I won't let the madness get to you." She whispered soothingly in his ear, making him calm down even more. She smiled again seeing him begin to breathe much more normally. That was when she heard the cell door open, and it revealed Sid.
"There you are, Shinigami-sama told us you were here. How is Justin doing?" He asked.
"He is doing okay at the moment, but the madness is still there. Is there something you wanted to ask me to do?"
"Yeah, me and Nygus need your help with something." He left them before Azusa sighed. Slowly she got out of bed, but before she could go, she heard Justin call her. He was looking up at her with an almost pleading look in his eyes.
"Don't worry, once I'm done with what Sid wants me to do, I'll be back." She reassured him. The death scythe walked over to him and gave him a small peck on the forehead before leaving. She was going to stand by Justin's side until the Kishin was finally dealt with.
One year later (Post Moon Battle)
It was finally over, the Kishin was finally gone. Thanks to Maka, Soul, and everyone else at the DWMA, they wouldn't have to worry about madness for a very long time. Death the Kid also replaced his father as the new Shinigami when he connected the Lines of Sanzu, causing his father's passing. The Kishin's death also meant that Stein was finally free of all the madness in his system, and both he and Marie were going to start a family pretty soon. Right now though, for Azusa, she was hurrying on her way to see the one person she was most concerned about. She finally found the door she was looking for and opened it up hastily.
"Justin! It's over, you don't need to worry about the Kishin anymore and...Justin?" Her happiness was replaced with confusion as she looked at the inside of the room with no sign of Justin. She steeped inside, but as soon as she did, she heard the door close behind her, and she turned around to see an insane looking Justin there.
"You shouldn't have come here pretty lady, now you will feel the wrath of the greatest subordinate of Kishin-sama." He said darkly as he closed in on her. She backed away with each step the executioner took.
'What is going on, shouldn't he be back to normal by now?!" She thought as he backed her into a wall. She closed her eyes, waiting for what was to come next, but she didn't expect him to start laughing. This wasn't a maniacal laugh though, this was completely filled with innocent amusement. She looked at him with wide eyes.
"You should have seen the look on your face Azusa! Don't worry, I'm sane now." He said as he stopped his laughter. Azusa twitched her eyes in annoyance before taking off his shackles. She was caught off guard when he suddenly gave her a tight surprise hug.
"Thank you again, for helping me." He said to her. Azusa smiled as she returned the tight embrace.
"Not a problem." They stood like that for a little while longer before looking at each other. They stared deep into each other's eyes, their faces getting closer and closer until finally, their lips locked in a passionate kiss. It wasn't rough, there wasn't any tongue war or anything else of the sort, because this simple little kiss was enough to convey their emotions to each other. Nothing else needed to be said.
They pulled apart and looked at each other, each with a kind smile on their face. Then, Justin's smile turned into a full blown grin as he dragged Azusa out of the room.
"C'mon Azusa, I hear we have a new Shinigami-sama, so let us go and celebrate the start of a new era and birth of a new god!" He exclaimed. Azusa rolled her eyes in amusement. This was just like Justin, and she couldn't have it any other way.
At long last, things were truly starting to feel at peace.
A/N: So, I'm expecting this to be the one the gets the most hate out of all the stories I have written thus far, because this truly did feel like my weakest work for me. But that will only be proven by the reviews, so if will please take the time to review, give some constructive criticism and helpful advice, it will be greatly appreciated as always. Take care.
