Patricia was overwhelmed with mail. The postman had rung her doorbell and handed her his entire bag, saying, "Aren't we popular this week!" Smirking, he left her on her doorstep.
She opened the bag and began to sort through the mail. Junk, junk, wedding invitation, birthday card, junk, - wait, wedding invitation? Patricia tore open the envelope and pulled out the card.

Patricia stared at the paper. She and Eddie had decided to take a break when they left for college, but she certainly hadn't been expecting him to find Nina, and marry her!
Of course, it was now safe for them to do so - Cassie had called from Anubis House two years ago, saying a new Chosen One and Osirian had arrived at the school, and Nina confirmed the locket no longer worked for her.
Still, the day they had parted, she thought he would come back for her…
They were sitting on the couch of the Common Room, his arm around her shoulders, waiting for Mr. Sweet to finish seeing children off. Both Patricia and Eddie had decided to take a gap year off from college, and stayed on at Anubis House to help out around the school. They were each teaching a class as well - her, Journalism, and him, Graphic Design.
Today was their last day.
Eddie suddenly sat up, saying, "We should open our letters now." Both of them had agreed not to open their acceptance letters until the last day possible. They had asked Trudy to open them, instead, and throw out the rejection letters. It turned out they each got into only one university, so they only had one envelope to open.
They took out their letters, opened the envelopes, and both faces lit up.
"I got Dartmouth! I got Dartmouth!" Eddie exclaimed.
Suddenly, Patricia didn't feel elated. They had both applied to the same universities, but the acceptance letter in her hand was from Cal Poly. She would be in America, but on the other side of the country.
Eddie took the letter from her hand, and read it. His face crumpled. "You got into the summer program, Trixie," he said quietly. "Your flight leaves in five hours. I guess it is goodbye then."
"Yeah, I guess it is." Patricia struggled to hold back tears.
Eddie took her face in his and kissed her gently. "Wait for me, yeah?" He smiled. "Cali girls are so much prettier, anyway."
Time had flown. At first, the letters were frequent, but they became busier, and the calls went from everyday to once a month, to annual christmas cards. Patricia, who didn't have a Facebook or any other form of social media, found out about Eddie's engagement from Joy, whose engagement to Jerome was one year ago.
Patricia smiled at the letter. At least he was happy. She quickly sent Nina and email - she would be happy to attend. On an unrelated note, Benji was Eddie's best man, and still single…
