The Eye
A beautiful day, sunny and clear,
A nearby river, bubbling blue.
I loved to watch the fish
that swam just beneath the water; I loved to
listen to the trees, silent or playing with the wind.
The day was warm, the water cool.
Immersed, the liquid felt good on hot skin,
Too young to travel, old enough to be alone,
Joyful splashing, wet drops on my cheeks,
The sun sinks lower, clouds gathering.
I lost track of time.
Darkness fell, rain began to fall,
foolishly I had swum too far.
The water picked up, I was pulled down further,
the bank was too far, the edges too steep
a branch hanging low, a leafy rescue.
A violent current, a rocky edge,
A sudden pain, crimson haze
A burst of strength, hard ground on my cheek.
A week later,
a bandaged right eye.
The calm rivers,
the silent trees,
no longer beautiful to me.
Random Notes: I'm sure every Lavi has at least once(or in my case, so many times that you annoy your best friend) wondered what's behind that eyepatch. I wrote this a while back, before I read his Reverse chapter, when I was trying to find some answers and I had to let it out of my skin somehow. In truth, I believe his eye is something different, but I'm willing to wait patiently(though I'm starting to find out I have less patience than I thought) for Hoshino to reveal that secret.
Disclaimer: I do not own Lavi. D. Gray-man is not my creation, that right belongs to Katsura Hoshino.
