This is my first attempt at writing an Avatar fanfic, and I apologize before hand for any mistakes I might have made due to ignorance. Waterbending Moon is written as a birthday present for my friend who's trying to get me hooked up on Avatar.
Happy birthday, Becks. (sorry, I forgot your usename.)
Disclaimers: I don't even know who the Avatar belongs to.
Pull. Push.
The moon was the first waterbender.
Pure, clear water followed her hand, breaking through the lake surface. Her ancestors had learned from the moon, becoming waterbenders and passing the talent down the generations. Not all in the water tribe could be waterbenders, but she had been gifted with the ability.
Pull. Push.
The only waterbender left in the Southern Water Tribe.
She liked it. Waterbending was her heritage, and she was proud of it. It was in her blood, flowing through her veins, just like the flowing water she bended. Water responds to her movements. They have helped her in many situations. She and her companions.
Pull. Push.
The Avatar stood opposite her.
Aang mimicked her, easily getting the water to respond to his smooth, graceful moves. Under her tutoring, the last airbender was getting more and more proficient in waterbending. He was getting stronger every passing day.
Pull. Push.
The water flowed in the air around her, like a ribbon.
Fighting wasn't the only thing waterbending could do. Waterbending could heal, could build. It was a very peaceful element. Waterbending was very relaxing when not used for fighting. It was as if the act of waterbending itself was enough to heal.
Pull. Push.
The duo moved in rhythm.
They moved the water smoothly in circles, as if doing a dance. Up, right, down, left. The moon shed its pale light on them, making the water glow softly, like faint blue pearls.
Pull. Push.
The water in the air was increasing.
Both of her hands were up, as was Aang's. The water danced around them, crossing over to the other's side now and then. They moved together in harmony, as if dancing to a song that only both of them could hear.
Pull. Push.
The smile on his face mirrored the one on hers.
More water gathered, forming water columns. They went higher and higher, as if trying to reach for the moon. The columns neared each other, weaving in between themselves, as if playing tag. Illuminated by the moonlight, they looked so magnificent, so beautiful, not of this world.
Pull. Push.
The water columns were coming alive.
They looked more like water serpents than mere columns. Shifting, twisting, the water almost seem to take on a life of its own. They danced, twining around each other, moving to the rhythm of a song silent to all but them.
Pull. Push.
The moonlight dimmed as clouds rolled over.
Lower, lower. Without the moonlight, they couldn't waterbend as well as with it. The water columns started to diminish in height and splendor.
Pull. Push.
The silent song was coming to an end.
Katara sighed as the magnificent creation faded away. As if one in mind, the two water benders let the water fall back into the lake.
Pull. Push.
The faint current around their legs went unnoticed.
They stared at each other, breathing heavily with quiet wonder. In all her time as a waterbender, Katara had never experienced something as breathtaking as this.
Pull. Push.
The airbender opened his mouth, "Wow."
She nodded. "Yes, wow."
Pull. Push.
The cloud rolled away.
Pull. Push.
The current grew stronger.
Pull. Push.
The moon was waterbending.
Hope you like it. Please review to tell me what you think about it.
