"Hi Lily."
"Oh, hey, James."
She smiles nervously. He draws an imaginary line with his big toe.
"So…"
"Yes?"
"Nice day we're having?"
She laughs.
"Smooth, Potter."
"Oh shut it."
"Stop being so sensitive. You're going to lose your reputation."
"Would you like me better if I did?"
She pauses. He watches her carefully.
She looks up.
"No."
His face falls.
"Oh."
She smiles.
"It's who you are. Who you have been anyways. I may not have liked you then, but you're different now. That part of you made you who you are now."
"You made me who I am now, Lily."
"No, you did that on your own."
He chuckles and shakes his head.
"No, Flower. It was you."
She sends him a questioning look.
He sighs.
"My love for you made me who I am. When you screamed at me to be more mature, I worked at it. When you said I was arrogant, I tried to become less so. When you said I was a bully, I changed my ways. When you said you could never love me, I persevered. It made me stronger, more persistent. You made me go after what I wanted. That's why it was you."
He looks at her, waiting for her response.
She's stunned.
"I made you change?"
"Yes."
"That sounds really awful."
She's crestfallen.
He frowns now too.
"What? No! Why is it awful?"
"Because. You changed for me. That's not how it should be. You should be yourself. Always."
She's almost crying.
He grinned, relieved.
"Lily! I'm still me. I'm just an improved version."
"Explain it to me then, Potter. Explain how I improved you. Explain how your "love" for me improved you."
"Fine. And I do love you. So much."
She raises her eyebrows.
He sighs heavily.
"I'm a better person, Lily. I'm modest, I help people rather than hinder them, I'm more mature, and I'm still going after what I want. But I'm still me. I still prank, I still have fun, I'm not too modest. Sounds improved to me, wouldn't you say?"
He waggles his eyebrows.
She rolls her eyes.
"Yes. It does."
"You changed me, Lily. And I love you for it."
He steps closer to her.
She looks into his eyes.
He reaches up a hand to trace her hairline.
She closes her eyes.
"James."
"Yes, Flower."
She opens her eyes.
"I love you too."
He just stares at her.
He's shocked.
"What?"
"You heard me."
"Say it again."
She merely smiles.
He grows impatient.
"Please."
She draws closer.
She wraps her arms around his waist.
She kisses his neck.
He puts his hands on her waist.
"Lily. Please."
She looks up.
"I love you."
She rests her chin on his chest, smiling adorably at him.
He kisses her.
She moves her hands into his messy hair.
He moans when she nips his ear.
He pulls away.
They look at each other.
"Yes!"
They look back.
Sirius jumps up and down gleefully.
They roll their eyes.
"Way to ruin the moment, Padfoot!"
Sirius shrugs and grins.
He wraps his arms on their shoulders.
"You really should have told him sooner, Lilykins."
James looks at Sirius in astonishment.
"You knew?"
"Yep."
Sirius winks at Lily.
Lily grins sheepishly at James.
"We're going to talk about you telling my best mate before me later. But right now shall we go to supper, Flower?"
James offers her his arm.
"Good idea, I'm starving!"
"Well you know what they say, snogging is good exercise."
James winks.
Lily tries to look stern but fails and a grins pops out.
Sirius has a confused look on his face.
"Wait, I thought that was sex?"
James and Lily look at each other.
"And off we go!"
"Oh Sirius..."
I was inspired. ;)
