Greetings. Ten years ago I worked on a similar story that I wasn't able to finish. In celebration of that effort, I bring forth a new version, hopefully better version. The first three chapters of this story are necessary to the creation of a much bigger more in-depth story starting with Chapter 4. They are to place a alternate series of events directly linked with the original Naruto story. The first three chapters may feel quick pace, as most of the events that take place are so close to that of the story. But I highly recommend reading to Chapter 4.
Without further ado, please enjoy "Kabuto's Mission Goes Terrible Wrong".
Kabuto felt bile enter his throat. He closed his eyes tightly wishing for the nausea to stop. "Umm…...are you…..are you okay?" The gentle voice was almost to quiet, he almost didn't hear it. He jumped when he felt a hand touch his shoulder and glared at the figure next to him.
The figure stumbled a couple feet back before his eyes were able to focus. Next to him stood a young short girl, much shorter than Kabuto. Her deep blue hair was some what short except for two bangs that hung down long. The most significant part of her was her eyes, two white orbs that Kabuto quickly recognized. She….She must be Hinata Hyuga, the only Hyuga member entering the Chunin exams. He rubbed his forehead to get the pounding to stop.
He looked around seeing several people looking at him but only Hinata was near by, though it appears her two team mates weren't far away. "E...Excuse me? B...back from where?" Her question confused him and he started rubbing his forehead again as his head began pounding hard.
"I am….I am not actually sure what I meant by that." He pulled himself back up straight using the wall as his leverage. As he attempted to take another step he nearly stumbled but he felt Hinata's arms catch him. He gave her a surprise look. "Are you...you sure you are okay?" Her gentle voice brought a small smile to his face.
"Yes. I believe it is passing, whatever it was." He gave her a bigger smile to reassure her that he was in fact alright. "You are too kind." Hinata's face turned a slight red and only gave a slight nod in response. "As a thanks, I will provide you and your friends some information." Finally standing up-right on his own he rummaged through his bag before pulling out a stack of cards. Besides…Kabuto thought to himself. This will be a good opportunity to gather information on my targets.
Kabuto wasn't sure what type of joke the universe was attempting to play on him but he wasn't laughing. Not only did he end up being attacked by idiot sound ninjas who he was technically working with, he ended up falling down and being helped up again by that Hinata girl. And to top it off, he was now sitting next to her during the exam. He adjusted his view just enough to look at her out of the corner of his eyes.
Hinata was busy at work getting to some of the last few questions. This surprised Kabuto. These questions are not easy and she is almost already finished? Impressive. Kabuto knew the Hyuga special eye ability would defiantly give Hinata an advantage at this type of exam but it didn't appear she was attempting to cheat. Doesn't she realize the exam is meant to be cheated on? As if on cue Kabuto noticed an examiner watching him as he scratched something on his clipboard. Tch, I wasn't cheating idiot.
He looked back down to stare at his half complete exam. He couldn't afford to be kicked out during the first part of the exam simple because he was watching a girl. He wasn't sure how he would explain that to Orochimaru.
Kabuto's casually walks his way through the Forest of Death. He separated himself from Yoroi and Misumo as he will be better tasked at hunting down Sasuke alone. Besides, the two were not exactly reliable despite being undercover agents for Orochimaru. They will be better tasked staying out of my way. He lets out a loud sigh as he looked around. "I knew I should of taken a left back there." The exam had only recently started but he wanted to make sure he found Sasuke's team as quickly as possible to give himself enough time to gather intelligence. Of course, something went wrong like the rest of this entire exam has been going wrong.
He perks up when he hears the sound of approaching footsteps and quickly decides to hide high in a tree to determine who was the intruders. Just as he reaches a high enough observation point he sees three figures moving around a large tree.
"I am telling you, I heard somebody over here. Right Akamaru?" A small bark seemed to come from the white object on top of one of the three. Kabuto let out a loud sigh realizing who the group was below him. Them again, or rather HER again. Kabuto reaches up adjusting his glasses.
"This is getting rather frustrating, we have yet to find a single person." Kiba growls. "Hinata why don't you use your byakugan to find us an opponent?"
"Uh...uh Right." She closed her eyes before opening them widely. "Byakugan." Kabuto felt a shiver go down his back. He knew he should of left. Hinata looked from left to right before stopping at the tree Kabuto was hiding in. "There is someone there."
Just leave now Kabuto. You have other things that need to be done. You got to find Sasuke. "Fang Passing Fang."Kabuto felt the entire tree jerk as Kiba collided with the stump. With a loud crack the tree began collapsing which caught Kabuto by surprise. With a loud thud the tree impacted the ground and he rolled away to prevent being crushed underneath. Before he was able to recollect himself he discovered he had been surrounded by the young Genin team.
I can easily take on these three, but that would defiantly blow my cover. He looked up at them with a hint of annoyance on his face before a wide innocent smile crossed his face. "Oh, hello there."
"K..Kabuto?" Kabuto was a bit surprised Hinata remembered his name. He forced out a laugh before slowly standing up straight.
"Sorry about spying, I wasn't sure if you guys were hostile or not." He adjusts his glasses and grins wide.
"Yeah, Yeah. I'll take your scroll now." Kiba held out his hand and Kabuto gave him a blank expression. "K..Kiba!" Kiba gave Hinata a questioning look. "What? He has a scroll and we need a scroll."
Kabuto raised his hand waving it in front of him. "It is alright. Unfortunately for the both of us, both of us have Earth scrolls so we can't benefit either of us." This seemed to cause them to shrug in disappointment. Good thing he guessed correctly which scroll they had, it was a 50/50 shot. He looked over at Hinata who looked even more disappointed. "So...So you guys haven't obtained your second scroll yet? I suppose I can be a bit nice and assist you."
Kiba perked up giving him a questioning look. A smile grew across Hinata's face which forced Kabuto to look away, for some reason it made him feel uncomfortable. And the third guy, what was his name again, Shino, he hardly seemed to react at all. "Why would you do that?" Kiba asked him. Good question.
"Umm, well maybe it will assist in getting my own scroll." That is a terrible explanation. Though it does seem to satisfy them. "I have a plan."
This was not a part of the plan. Kabuto glared forward through the branches in the tree in which he was hiding. Next to him the small figure stirred as she continued to use her Byakugan. The plan involved the four of them waiting for a team heading towards the exit and ambush them to take their scroll. As they are bound to have both scrolls, they can take the one they need. But the plan wasn't suppose to involve me splitting up with her. They were pretty persistent about this type of set up. And as he thought about it he guessed placing Hinata in the over-watch group only made sense with her Byakugan, so why was he so frustrated about it.
He sensed Hinata shuffle next to him which caught his attention. He hadn't noticed before but sweat had started to form on her forehead. She must be using up a lot of Chakra and energy using her Byakugan so much. He reached over and placed a hand on her shoulder which made her nearly fall out of the tree from surprise. He grabbed her arm and pulled her closure. "Are you okay?" He said with genuine concern.
Hinata's cheeks turned a slight shade of pink. "Y...yeah sorry." She reached up wiping some sweat with her sleeve. "Perhaps you should take a break." A slight nod was the only response he got from her as she adjusted herself so she could sit on the branch with her legs hanging over the side. She is so fragile for a ninja. He continued to watch her as her eyes were closed attempting to recover her energy. She is either extremely foolish, or extremely trusting to place herself in such a vulnerable position with somebody she only just meet during a competition in which they were technically opponents.
The sound of shuffling in a nearby tree caught Kabuto's attention. Looking up he was shocked to see an unknown ninja leaping straight in their direction. They were suppose to be the hunters, not the hunted. The ninja let lose three Kunai straight at Hinata who was just realizing what was happening. Shit, she is not going to react fast enough. His hands grabbed her by the shoulders causing her to look up at him. "Land on your feet." He quickly said before shoving her out of the tree.
He felt three hard impacts, two to his shoulder and one to his right arm. The pain was instant which caused him to yell loudly before he felt his body fall forward. He was tumbling forward out of the branch right after Hinata. His glasses slipped from his face and his vision blurred before blackening. He waited for the inevitable thud of his body hitting the hard ground but it never came.
