A/N:Just a quick drabble about Remus' perspective of the 31st October 1981. Enjoy!
In appreciation of Remus Lupin
On the 31st October 31 years ago, Remus Lupin lost everything he knew. He had had the best friends in the world – they'd supported him, they'd loved him, they'd laughed with him and they'd laughed at him. He lost it all. In one moment of murderous mayhem, a madman caused Remus Lupin's life to be thrown into an unrecognisable state.
He lost not only James and Lily, but Sirius and Peter too.
Sirius, the man whose trust and loyalty was undoubted, was the man who had cowardly betrayed the Potters.
And Peter, the man with an uncanny ability to hide himself from danger, was the man who bravely confronted the betrayer.
And then there was James, the man who was so strong-minded and could be depended on completely had been cruelly killed, and Lily, the woman of acceptance and loveliness had suffered the same brutal fate.
James and Lily, parents leaving behind their only child, Harry, now orphaned and unaware of the incredible feat he had inadvertently achieved. But even he had gone; gone to a Muggle village far away from all forms of magic. Remus couldn't even reach his only connection with the friends he had lost.
Everything Remus knew was gone, and nothing made sense. He was alone in a world of danger.
Remus immersed himself in his work for the Order, doing all that he could to capture each and every one of the bastards who supported Voldemort and his corrupt and disgusting views.
He had never been so determined, but he had never been so cut off. He barely spoke to anyone but Dumbledore. He couldn't face the false sympathies from people that could never understand, he couldn't bear to be near anyone who "simply couldn't believe it was Sirius!", and he certainly couldn't deal with the people that were happy that Voldemort had died, was gone for good. He wasn't gone. James, Lily and Peter were dead but Voldemort was not. He was out there; he was waiting in the shadows, weakened but never dead.
Even after all this torment and misery, Remus rose from his depression and stuck a finger up to life, vowing to become a stronger person as a result of his suffering.
He worked tirelessly to attain the necessary requirements of a teacher and, in 1993, succeeded in achieving the position he'd always wanted: the professor of Defence against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Very short I know, but review please! Thank you!
