Colours of sunset
'You like the sea, captain?'
'Yes; I love it! The sea is everything.'
J.Verne, Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea
The sea, its monotonous hum. You love it. Its everlasting serenity, and the peace it brings you. The murmur of the waves, soft as your wife's voice, whe she lulls children to sleep. Last shades of blue, giving into darkening grey – this very shade of blue, bule as your children's eyes – and hers.
The gold of the sunset, filling almost the whole sky. Golden as the light, playing in childrens' hair. Warm as their hands in yours. Warm as the love in her eyes and on her lips. Bright as their smiles. Magnificent as your moments together. These moments are all like sunsets – each one a unique miracle, and an unforgettable one.
Cool winds blows, refreshing as when you walk together by the seaside. Children playing. Wind in her hair, and your hand, brushing a silky strand aside from her face.
The sun is setting slowly, first shades of night appearing. Dark grey, mixing with the royal red of the sunset. Like a shadow of smoke, accompanying the blaze of fire.
First star somewhere beyond the horizon. Cold as the snow they hald to walk among. Cold as the end of the way. As emptiness.
Evening sky, darkening, yet still with bright shades of red. Dark as the pain, and equally burning.
Starry, night sky, black and distant. Black as the mourning. As the furthest depths of the ocean.
Your colours are like sunsets – gold and black. And the letter, your letter, 'N'. Like the words she once said: 'Never aparat'. But for now your colours are gold and black. And there is a lot more black than gold... Never forgetting. Memories are in gold, but remembering in black.
You love the sea, because it is your only one love left. The only one that does not hurt so much. One last love, that has become everything.
