Where will we be?
"Okay, class. Today we are going to test you to see how high you can count," The kindergarten teacher said. "You can all you to your play stations, and I'll call you up to my desk, starting with…Mark Cohen."Mark made his way to the teacher's desk while the rest of the class went to their stations. After he was done counting for the teacher, he joined his group where they were playing make-believe.
"Well," said Tommy, "what number did you get to?"
Mark made a face and said quietly, "Seventy-seven." He had started talking more to the rest of the group, but he was still very shy around them, especially when all of their eyes were watching him.
"Wow!" said Mimi. "I don't think I'll ever be able to count that high."
"That's only because you're stupid," Roger told her, pulling her hair and then darting away so she couldn't retaliate.
"C'mon you guys, play nice, "Angel said to them. He then turned to Mark and said, "Good job counting. Your really smart!" At this comment, Mark ducked his head and blushed, unsure of how to accept the compliment.
"Seventy-seven." Tommy sighed. "Where do you think we'll be in seventy-seven years?"
"We'll be dead, of course." Maureen exclaimed. "Nobody can live that long!"
"No we won't," Joanne retaliated. "My next door neighbor is older than that, and she's not dead."
Maureen just stuck her tongue at her.
"Well, I don't care how old I get to be," Angel said. "I'm never going to die! I'm going to have a great life and live forever, and no one or nothing is going to stop me." The others just look at him and nodded their heads. If anyone could live forever, it would be Angel, because he was the nicest person they knew.
Tommy looked over at Angel. "Well then, I'm going to live forever too!"
"Me too!" Roger shouted, and soon they had all agreed that they were never going to die.
"And we're all going to be friends forever," Angel said, giggling.
"Of course! " the all exclaimed.
"Even seventy-seven years from now?" Mark asked, quietly.
"Especially then," Angel replied, and then the teacher called him to take his test, leaving the group with a missing person in their grand game of make-believe.
