Klunk.

.

He was always such a little brat.

He would leap, jump and claw everything. Tearing apart the couch, ruining the pillows. He was a nuisance. Always a pest, he would climb the walls just to reach his prey, never caring what went wrong in his path.

In the night, he was always more frisky, more energetic. He would wait for you, wait for you to pass before he would pounce upon your ankles tearing cries of pain from throats. Never would he cower, never would he shy away.

They hated that cat, and the cat wasn't very fancy of them either.

Yet they agreed to disagree, for one.

For the brother who brought in the cat. For the one who cared for it, no matter how many times he was scratched. He loved that cat with all his heart, from the very moment he saw it.

The cat loved him. Showing affection through purrs, and mews. Never far behind his master, always following.

For years, their love was shown through compassion. Always a mutual friendship. When his master would have nightmares, the cat was always there, always there to comfort.

Years...

But it couldn't last for ever. They knew it would end, they knew it wouldn't be long now. But they kept their heads up, for the one.

They never got along with the cat. They never even wanted one. But they smile from their brother had changed their minds. Now with only moments left they felt for the cat, wishing it an easy passing. Knowing it would be worse for the one.

God, how he had loved that cat. Never letting it stray to far, always keeping it safe.

Safe...

It couldn't be protected from everything. Age was a horrible monster, taking lives and loved ones.

Sobs ran through the air as the small body took a shaky breath. The fur was worn now, white and grey patching at the orange making the body look frail.

Another small breath. In and out, in and out, slowly seizing.

It wouldn't be long now.

Silent tears fell from the one who loved the cat the most, the cats owner, and master.

The small figure shuttered once, then the last tiny breath was taken, then released.

Nothing lives for ever.

Everything has its time.
