"I'm so glad Christmas break is finally here!" Lily said as she slumped into the compartment with the Marauders after her brief prefect meeting.
"Yeah. I'll miss you though," James said.
"Just write to me."
"Alright." Lily stood up and walked out to talk to her friends before the break. James sighed.
"I wish she would go out with me!"
"Maybe she will," Remus said. Sirius nodded.
"Yeah, friends today and maybe even more tomorrow!" Peter piped up.
"It took 6 and a half years to become friends. It'll take at least 6 more to get her to go out with me!"
"No it won't. Besides, being heads together really helps, doesn't it?" Remus said thoughtfully.
"I guess," James said.
"We should get our stuff together. We'll be arriving in King's Cross soon," James said looking around at the messy compartment. The boys had basically emptied their trunks.
"You really should," a voice said making the boys jump.
"I didn't hear you come in here, Lily!" Peter said as he climbed back into his seat.
"I'm here all right. Now clean up before we arrive!"
"Yes mother," Sirius muttered as the boys began to repack everything. Lily ignored him and preceded to read a book she had pulled out of her own trunk.
"We're almost here!" Lily said happily as she looked out of her window.
"Yeah. Wait, Lily! I don't have your address!" James said as they pulled into the station. Lily dug into her pocket and pulled out a quill.
"I don't have any parchment, so I'm going to write on your hand," she said. James nodded and held out his left hand. He smiled as Lily began to write fiercely. "Look at it later," she said as she pulled her trunk off of the train and quickly disappeared from view. James glanced down at his hand and stared at it for a full three minutes.
"Prongs? What are you doing? Your parents are over there," Sirius said pointing as he dropped his and James' trunks next to the frozen boy.
"Oi! Prongs! Padfoot!" Remus called out from across the station. Sirius waved his hand in front of James's face.
"Look at this," James said in a whisper.
"What?" James showed Sirius his left hand as Remus tottered over.
"Remus! Do you see this too, or is the light tricking both of us?" Sirius asked. Remus took a look.
"If you see the words 'I love you' then we're on the same page, Pad-" Remus stopped and looked between James's hand and the barrier. "Wait. Did Lily write that?"
"Yep." Remus blinked several times at James's answer.
"Wow. Looks like you're in luck, Prongs!"
"I know! This is the best Christmas ever!" James said happily as he walked over at last to greet his parents.
"Hi James!" his parents called out as the three boys approached. Peter had already left with his mother.
"Hi mum! Hi dad!" James called out overenthusiastically.
"James, honey, what's on your hand?" Mrs. Potter asked as Sirius, Remus, and James made their way towards the exit back to the muggle world.
"Nothing but the best thing in the world," James called over his shoulder. Mrs. Potter raised her eyebrows slightly, but her husband shook his head thinking it was something for a prank. For once, he was wrong.
