At first, there was only darkness. And then, a man with wild grey hair, and an adventurous expression, wearing a slightly wrinkled lab coat, appeared out of the shadowy dark enveloping the room. His coat ruffled a bit. "Hi! Sorry to keep you waiting," the man exclaimed, with a tone of enthusiasm. "Welcome to the world of Pokémon!" "I am Cedar," the man continued, "But most people affectionately refer to me as the Pokémon Professor." "This world is inhabited by creatures known as Pokémon," Professor Cedar explained. "Pokémon and people live alongside each other peacefully." "At times they are our playmates, and others, our cooperative workmates," he went on, "But we don't know everything about Pokémon yet. There are still many mysteries to solve surrounding them," he said. "That's why I have been conducting research on Pokémon. That's what I do." "Now, tell me, what is your name?" An eager young Trainer dressed in a red hoodie, wearing a black and dark red cap flipped backwards, stepped forward. "I'm Aiden," he told the Professor. "This is my grandson. He's been your rival since you both were babies," the Professor told Aiden. A boy around Aiden's age walked out of the darkness. He had spiked orange hair, purple pants, a black polo, and a determined expression. "Err, what was his name again?" The boy said "It's Gary, gramps." "Oh of course," the Professor exclaimed, "Hos name is Gary!" "Aiden, are you ready? Your very own Pokémon adventure is about to unfold," the professor said, "You'll face fun times and tough challenges." "A world of dreams and adventures awaits! Let's go!" "I'll be seeing you later!"
Aiden woke up from his bed. He couldn't believe today was the day! He would be getting his starter Pokémon soon! He was so excited, he almost forgot to check his alarm clock. "11:00 AM?! I overslept!", Aiden cried as he quickly jolted upright from his bed and bolted downstairs. He was about to exit when his mom stopped him. "Right. All boys leave home someday," she sighed, "It said so on TV." "Oh yes, Professor Cedar, next door, is looking for you. Aiden was so excited, he almost hit the door as he run out of the house. He sprinted all the way to the lab, only to see Gary standing there. "Yo! Aiden! Gramps isn't around!", Gary told him. Aiden ran all around town looking for him, but to no avail. "Must be out doing field work," Aiden thought to himself, "I don't have a Pokémon...no harm done, right? I'll be fine," he assured himself. He took one step into the grass before he heard someone yelling his name. Professor Cedar ran up to him. "Aiden! Don't go out! You need a Pokémon for your protection," he exclaimed, "Here, come with me." Aiden walked with Cedar to the lab, where Aiden could see three Poké Balls in a machine. "There are three Pokémon here," he explained, "Choose one to be your partner. Take all the time you need."
